Title: Ultima 24v Saloon. Transplanting a gear box?
Post by Malcolm73 on Jul 29th, 2013, 4:00pm
My 100,000 mile 24v Ultima saloon has unfortunately undergone treatment that has resulted in the gearbox requiring refurbishment and the prop’ shaft may also need replacing.
I have choices:-
1) To take my car to a gearbox specialist who knows what they are doing and of course this may entail new parts and will be expensive.
2) I have discovered for sale an estate version fitted with a 24 valve Cosworth. The aluminium wheels are fitted with 205/65/R15 tyres. I am considering buying this car which runs like a dream and having the gearbox and transmission fitted to my Scorpio Ultima.
The car is outside the owner’s factory from where they run their personal upmarket cars.
The Scorpio has apparently been looked after mechanically but has been used as a taxi for dogs. The inside is disgusting; it stinks and is thick with dog hair. The bodywork has corrosion and various dents and other damage. The paintwork is probably ‘Curias’  but it is badly faded.
For some car work I use a small garage the owner of which reckons he can transplant the gearbox and transmission.
Can anyone please tell me of any reasons as to why a transplant may not succeed?  For example different gear ratios.

If it from a 24v going into another 24v it'll be fine.
