Title: Stiffenin up soft rear suspension.
Post by Geoff_W on Aug 2nd, 2013, 9:28pm
Over the last couple of years I have noticed on occasion that my rear suspension has felt somewhat softer and that over road humps and potholes there have been times when the drivers side rear tyre comes very close to the wheel arch.

Not any more. Having towed previously I know that Grayston Height and ride adjusters can really help firm up rear suspension so I have just had some fitted.

Transformed things. an extra inch and a half clearance and the car feels much more poised. Arch clearance front and rear is about the same. All told £35.00 the pair.

Geoff

Which type did you fit? Rubber assisters?

Did you purchase from here:

Yes that was the website and then I used eBay to source them. Lots out there. The kit I bought was GE15 Rubber Coil Spring Assistors and I quote

"Grayston Coil Spring Assisters and Raisers are manufactured in a hard rubber compound and can be fitted by the average DIY motorist without special tools. They are progressive in operation
and are available in four sizes"

Very pleased! With the ride and the gaps  ;D  I suspect that this may help keep my arches in better condition longer.  8)

When you think about it Geoff, the remaining unsupported coils are subjected to all the squash.I have two new sets of these in two different sizes in my shed, never fitted them, chickened out and invested in Monroe Ride Levellers, adjustable air shocks which are the ultimate answer.Whether or not they are available for the estate I don't know, possibly not owing to the air pipe routing, but all my funeral vehicles were saloon based, even the hearses.

You are absolutely right Gozz about the unsupported bits, however it certainly has made a significant difference. I will monitor the situation and if necessary consider biting the bullet and fitting new springs or perhaps Air shocks, but these seem to be a good alternative at the moment.

Hope all is well in Peterborough
and the weather Gods are kind   ;)

Driven on some of my most commonly used local roads, some of which are somewhat uneven. Very impressed the car seems much more supple and poised over some pretty poor road surfaces. No wheels touching wheel arch rims whatsoever.

Wonder if I could fit some to the front coil springs.

Any thoughts chaps?
