Title: Vibration at speed Post by amigafan2003 on Nov 2nd, 2013, 7:54pm Hi All Took the Cosworth down to Bognor Regis for half term holiday with the kids and she performed flawlessly with over 750 miles being covered in 5 days (two 310 mile trips in one go) - new water pump didn't lose a drop of water :-) Even returned 31mpg on the way back :-) However, I did notice there is a vibration through the car which starts off around 65mph and fades out at around 85mph. It isn't felt through the steering wheel but rather in the seat of the pants and up the spine to the neck if that makes sense? So what do we reckon - go for a wheel/tyre balance first and then move onto something like CV joints at the rear? I can get full recon driveshafts for £60 a side - are they easy to swap? Scorpio driveshafts are bolt on on each end aren't they? |

Title: Re: Vibration at speed Post by Scorpio_Mike on Nov 2nd, 2013, 9:25pm Prime suspect, I would say has to be the propshaft bearings or joints. Rear driveshafts have 6 Torx bolts on each end and can be tricky to get out - impact driver might be useful. CV joints can be replaced - you don't have to change the complete driveshaft. Yours will be the 108mm CV joints I think - don't know how much they are but the 100mm joints can be picked up for about £20 each, pretty sure they are the same as on a Sierra. |

I've seen the article on changing the center bearing on the prop - I'll give that a go :-) Thanks all. |

Title: Re: Vibration at speed Post by Mike H on Nov 13th, 2013, 6:32pm Is this consistent, repeatable, or it only happened on one particular road or type of road, could be the road surface setting up a resonance. That's not to say there isn't an imbalance, but it's being aggravated. Just FYI the Clio has a security bolt on each wheel so I suspect there is a bit of imbalance, the steering can tremble slightly at around 65 BUT it also depends on the road surface, so is not consistent. There were some bits of the A1 that did this (this weekend) but not much else so far as I can recall now. |
