Title: Help/Advice please Buying Scorpio estate
Post by Daniel on Jan 23rd, 2014, 11:13am
Hi everyone
I need you help and advice please.
As some of you know my parents are selling the mondeo and have been looking for a better car. Well i have found 2 Scorpio estates for them, firstly this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-SCORPIO-GHIA-AUTOMATIC-ESTATE-FULL-LEATHER-LUXURY-ESTATE-/181300263904?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2a36567be0

MOT'd till october and taxed, BUT just did a text check on it and i got it as a damage cat C loss in 2004 repair costs exceed pre accident value.
VIC pass recorded 02-02-2005.
I suppose thats a no go but not sure really.

So i tried the second one. A 2.0l in Auralis Blue (i think).
Did a check and it has had no bumps BUT it says:
1 colour change ???

Is there a way i can tell what the original colour of the car is?
Could it mean just resprayed?
Really stuck on this one now.
Any Help or thoughts very much appreciated.
Dan :)

With regard the colour change it’s not uncommon to have the wrong colour entered when first registered so presumably it could be someone correcting that.

The VIN should tell you the original colour:

Thanks forgetting back.
On two websites i have found colour description as:
Aluminium
and one stated
Silver.
Only way to find out is to phone the seller and either see if he knows what the reason is or if he could read the VIN for us.
Its Hpi clear so no crash or anything so thats a plus
Thanks

As for the red one it does state it had a vic test. It could be something like a broken bumper but the seller might know and you could use this to get the price down. It does look a good car from the pics

Yes Daniel,as Andycan says it doesn't take much at all to create a cat C on an old  car, especially when new bits are priced up.That red one also has the added bonus of having straight aircon and no pesky sunroof,if you don't like the Ghia wheels you could get some twelve spokes later,I had some of those Ghia wheels that came off a breaker, put em on ebay and a bloke came right across the country to collect em,he said he had wanted a proper set of wheels for his car for a long time  8)

Well, the red one is apparently sold now, took a deposit yesterday.
But the insurance was ridiculous. For our last 24v saloon with declared bodywork modifications it was £72 per month,
for the red 2.3 estate above, they wanted £119 per month ??? :o.
And the blue one is sold too  ::)
Thanks for comments anyway
Dan  :)
