Title: Focus problem
Post by catalina on Mar 16th, 2014, 11:50pm
Not my Scorpio this time!!

My wife's 1.6 petrol Focus 2002, has been standing 3 months and battery went flat. Have recharged battery but now find that the speedometer and rev counter do not move from zero (not even a flick). Also find temperature gauge is hunting. Have disconnected and reconnected battery, checked the relevant fuses but no good. Car only done 17000 miles and is otherwise immaculate. Any one any ideas please?

I'd make a wild guess condensation has got into the electronics of the dash instruments especially during the Winter weather.

A quick check on Google brought up This U Tube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFC3doVh_vo). Sounds as though Mike H might be on the right track. There are lots of references to dodgy instrument panels on some Focus's so you may want to trawl some more. :)

Thank you both. If damp is the likely problem I'm going to start by getting the car really warm by using a Swedish car heater which they use to defrost and warm up the car in the winter. I think it's worth a try. I hate working on dashboard and instrument panel problems. I can never quite them back together correctly!!!

Thanks again . I'll let you know how I get on.
