Title: Fuel Cut Off Loom Post by Simmo on Jul 12th, 2014, 12:03pm I have just had the head gasket replaced on my 20ltr 16v and surprise surprise the garage advised that the fuel cut off loom needed replacement! ::) Like I didn't know!. ;) They have got the car running but I'm not sure how much insulating tape they've used to achieve that. I did warn them! ;D Has anyone on here actually remade one?. I'm currently awaiting a reply from Fordparts UK and I have an old one which Tompion kindly gave me as a pattern in case I decide to have a go myself. ::) |

Title: Re: Fuel Cut Off Loom Post by brds on Jul 12th, 2014, 5:40pm I remade the majority of one during the winter of 2012/2013 for my 2.0L 16V when I renewed all the loom from 12 inches above the main connector to all the sensors, injectors, plug modules etc. It was fiddly getting everything unplugged and out. I carefully labelled all the wires on each side where I cut the loom and double-checked everything with wiring diagrams on the site. I made up most of it on a bench and cut back to just before each connector. I re-used all the old connectors except the camshaft sensor which was broken and had to be replaced - got one on ebay but re-used the old gold-plated connectors in the new housing. I soldered the new wires on and covered them in heat-shrink. Then got under the bonnet and soldered all the new wires to the main connector loom and plugged things back in one-by-one. Really awkward bit was getting the oil and temperature sensors off and back on - had to use a long springy gripper thing to hold them and a bit of wood to push them back on. I then wrapped all the new wiring in insulating tape and covered that with heat resistant aluminium tape. Job took several days because it was winter and below freezing a lot of the time. It's not too difficult, you just need to be methodical and keep everything labelled and make a careful note of the old and new colours for each connector. All went well and it started first time. Performance much improved so I think it was running without the camshaft sensor before. Good luck, Bob |

There were a good few differences but fortunately my nearest-neighbour and mate with his collection of Jaguars, is a retired auto-electrician, and he not only used the connectors from my loom, (aye he managed to get them apart using a bench-mounted magnifier) so I didn't need to cut any wire, he has built me a new spare loom out of the old-one, using new wires but all the old connectors. To do the job on my car outside took him about 4 hours. He reckons a re-furbished loom should only take a day. But he's retired and won't do this commercially. He reckons anyone with patience and little knowledge can manage it. Who am I to argue! |

I have in the last few minutes received a reply from Trevor at FordpartsUK saying that the 2.0Ltr loom is no longer available! :( I have asked him if the 2.3 one is capable of adaption as I am sure this has been done. I do know that the IAC valve is differently shaped but I guess the overall circuitry is the same?. PJ as you will see I have an old loom so if your neighbour is looking to repeat the exercise on a bench I would be happy to discuss terms with him! May be a drop of Amber Nectar would sway him?. |

I have also found that BUT he says it is the wrong Finis number although,as I have pointed out to him, if I insert the VIN number for my car it allows me to proceed?! ??? Title: Re: Fuel Cut Off Loom Post by Tompion on Jul 13th, 2014, 8:00pm Mike, the picture in that link is for a 2.0 as if you click on the picture to enlarge it, it has a single wire boot (no earth needed) for one of the coolant temp sensors (middle right of the picture) same type as the oil pressure sensor (bottom right) – the 2.3 has an earth as well because of the plastic manifold. The IAC you mentioned is the same, it just has the plug at a different angle. If the loom is wrong for yours I think it will be because yours is manual. If there is a difference it’s likely in the multiplug on the wing. Compare the multiplug on yours with the one on my old loom to see if the pin layout is the same. Just repeating what I’ve read on here about the multiplug, not sure why they should differ (if they do) as no auto wires go through it but I suppose it may connect to different pins on the ECU. It appears that there was a change of Finis number shortly before my car was built. The correct loom is available in Germany and should be with me in about a weeks time. Garage reckon about an hour to change it over.I hesitate to say this but after having the head gasket done the car is running like a dream. The amount of insulating tape on the loom is considerable however!. ;D |
