Title: Manual gearbox problem
Post by Bobbit on Oct 22nd, 2014, 9:23am
Hi,
Hope someone can tell me what is going on with my gearbox, it used to be really easy and tight to change gear.
Now all of a sudden the gear lever has gone slack as though a spring or something has gone, it just flops about , I can still change gear but not as easily as before .
It is a 1996 2.3 estate
cheers Bob

the manual gear lever is on a cradle that bolts to the gearbox. this is supported by rubber bushes.

also the mechanism that changes the gears is only a pin through a rubber holder

guessing one of the rubbers has perished or fallen out

I think you can get a poly bush kit to replace the rubber bushes.
Not sure if you can fix this with the gearbox in situ or if you would have to take it out  ???

Hi guys,
Thanks for the info.
Any idea where I can get these from, and does anyone know if you can fit them without dropping the gearbox,  I hope. :(.
Cheers
Bob

Power flex will do the polly ones, best way would be to remove the box mount and let it hang down a bit

Powerflex make a poly bush kit for MT75 : http://www.powerflex.co.uk/road-series/product-details/Gear+Lever+Cradle+Mount+Kit/1072.html

It is listed for a Sierra XR4x4 so maybe check with them before purchasing.

Reckon it might be a gearbox out job... >:(
