Title: Drop Links
Post by PJDavis on Feb 27th, 2015, 7:17pm
Is it just me?   I've had the car Seven years, and I replaced them just after I got the car.   Then replaced again about Three MOT's later, now the blasted things are 'clunking' again!   Is there any merit in buying a more expensive item,  I paid only about £20 for the last pair, about £25 for the first set.   I got the car with 75K on the clock, it's now on 120K.

Thoughts Please.

Hi Peter

I fitted some cheap ones from Ebay, the first ones although they weren’t knocking for the next MOT the boots had hardened & split so would’ve failed. The next ones were knocking after about a year. I replaced them with firstline ones (I ordered unipart GSJ3842 ones which were cheaper but they sent firstline FIRFDL6581). I noticed when fitting them that the balljoints were larger than the joints on the Ebay items. Unfortunately the firstline ones were only on the car 10 months before it was written off :( so I can’t say how good they were.

There are some Quinton Hazell QLS3284S ones on Amazon for £14.17 at the moment.

Dave

Scorpios are just heavy on the front end and chew through drop links - especially wit the small joints they use - that's just the way it is.

Treat them as consumables, like oil and air filters.

Here's the bottom joint on the last unbranded Ebay one I bought and a new QH one - about 25mm outer dia compared to 30mm.
Mind you I think they were only about £10 a pair ;D

LOL,

I think TBH it's the roads up here, potholes etc.

I fitted a pair of new lower wishbones to my V Class Bus 14 months ago, lower swivel N/S absolutely hanging out less than 8000 miles later, had to renew it friday, before mot yesterday  >:(

Cheers Dave

Ordered a couple of Delphi ones, we'll see.    :-/

Update.   Fitted both sides Delphi.   Interestingly, the cheap-rubbish that came out instead of having 17mm flats to hold the joint in place whilst tighening/losening the nut, had 15mm flats.   So, I had to sacrifice a blasted 15mm spanner in the usual way for the top-joint!   Yes the old ones also had the smaller joint as above, and they were broken as well, in less than a year!
