Title: Identifying a part on my car
Post by mondeoman on Jun 11th, 2015, 10:50am
On my Ford Scorpio 2.9 24v I have a rotten part around the centre of the car in front of the windscreen under the air intake grills just behind the bonnet.

Someone mentioned this might be part of the heater? It has a rubber diaphragm and some small rubber hoses which if removed and the engine is running is sucking air.

Does anybody have any idea what this part might be and if I could get a replacement?

Cheers,

Simon

I think you are describing the actuator for the air-con recirculation . All mine are corroded but seem to work ok.

Do you mean the 'vacuum motor assembly' ?

Yes it appears to be the vacuum motor assembly looking at the drawings and the picture. What exactly does this do and is it easy to get a replace part which is not corroded?
Presume Ford won't have any new parts?

Many Thanks,

Simon

Worth checking with Ford as this may well have been a generic part used across several Ford models - looks identical to the part on a Sierra XR4x4 with A/C I had a while back and also looks like the actuator on a Mk3 Granada Scorpio - the part was very rusty I seem to recall.
I think the actuator is something to do with the recirc function on the A/C and closes or opens a flap ?

Absolutely right.   These bits get very rusty, but they continue to work.   Just get someone to press the 'recirc' button whilst the car is running, and watch to see the vacuum work to shut all the vents.   If it works, it's ok.
