Title: Leaking radiator - 1996 24V Cosworth Saloon
Post by KeithCEng on Jan 4th, 2016, 10:52pm
Help!

So far, I've always been able to keep my well-loved Ultima on the road since I bought her as a 2yr old in 1998. Bits have been available and replaced as necessary and I always said I'd only get rid of her if the engine blew up. The engine is sound as a bell, having only done 81000 miles with oil/filter change every 3000 miles. However, the radiator has developed a leak at the top of the matrix (it seems to be relatively small at the moment but will obviously get worse) - I have checked online with "www.fastrads.co.uk" and "www.adrad.co.uk" but neither seems to state that their versions are for the so-called "Frog-eye" Scorpio (I loathe that term!) - My local Motor Factors investigated and reckoned that they are no longer manufactured. I also spoke to a local radiator specialist who said he could re-core it if he could obtain a suitably sized matrix but when he checked (including his contacts in Germany) he had no luck either.
Do any of you good people out there have any suggestions?, otherwise I may be advertising my Scorpio on this very Website!

Cheers

KeithCEng

You can fit the 16v rad as many owners have done.
You need the 16v header tank or have to fit a blanking plug to 1 hose or outlet I think.
I have a new spare rad for a 16v manual car - possibly the matrix could be used to recore your old unit ?

Keith. I had a small leak on my 16v and used the Titanium version (http://www.sylmasta.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Epoxy_Putties_23.html) to 'putty' it and it saved the day. Might be worth a try. Nothing to lose?. ;)

Have a look at this site.  http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/radiator/nissens-62229_g470_a12362229.html     The estate is the same as saloon but as it is a 16v one you have to blank pipes as all ready mentioned.

Yup - I have a 2.3 16v rad on mine - working perfectly.  ALOT easier to get hold of and ALOT cheaper.

My radiator is ballooning at the bottom, I'm also trying to get a replacement/repair. The 16v type and header tank maybe the answer to my question also

Hi ben24v. Make sure your header tank cap is not stuck shut, mine was and my radiator went the same way. I pushed the valve open with a bit of copper pipe,, and I now check it a couple of times a year.

I've ordered a copper and brass radiator from city radiator services in Bilston for £255 with a 5% discount for sharing on Facebook when I go and pay next Saturday.

Hi Are you still looking for a radiator as I have a good secondhand one going begging, from a 97  BOB 24v.

Mark

I would be interested in the 24v radiator if it is still available?  Thanks Matt
