Title: Bigger Discs
Post by whentostop on Apr 29th, 2016, 5:47pm
I intend to fit bigger brakes on my 24v. I have heard that the Mondeo 300mm discs will fit with caliper and carrier. Anyone got experience of this?

Hmmmm.   I wonder why?   I've only a 2.3 Ultima, and never found wanting for more braking power.   I drive the car pretty hard, regularly taking it passed a 'Ton', and on EVERY journey once warmed-up do a long hard brake from a high-speed to make sure the all the brakes are up-to speed especially the rears.   I've a couple of Jaguars, also late 90's pre-V8.   They have similar brakes to the Scorpio but much more weight, and again never want for braking power along with a high speed of well over 140mph.   I think that if you're using well proven manufacturers of brakes, like Mintex or Girling, what's on the car is sufficient.   Just my opinion.   As a footnote, a friend of mine spent a fortune on his BMW 'M' something on vented discs, Two things happened, he felt the brakes were too aggressive with less feel, and his insurance went sky-high because he'd modified the car.   I would check what your insurance would say?

Ive got mondeo 300mm on mine, you need to fit a spacer between the carrier and the steering knuckle. On a 24v i have to say it hasnt made any noticable difference other then filling up the inside of the wheel more
