Title: Mk3 Power to Manual Sunroof Conversion
Post by Brad Anesi on Jul 23rd, 2018, 3:00am
Greetings from across the pond in New York.  We've got a 1987 Merkur Scorpio - Ford Granada to you all - that we'd like to convert from power to manual sunroof operation.

Does anyone know exactly what's needed to do this conversion?  I know the crank handle from the Sierra works just fine, so I was considering modifying a trim panel from a XR4, but if I could get something that was made for the car, that would be preferable.

Thanks for any input and/or leads on sources.

The mark 3 Granada from 85-94 was also available with manual sunroof, (actualy had one with manual sunroof) perhaps a browse on ebay and similar may turn up parts from a breaker.

Thanks for the reply.  Yes, I'm aware that the Mk3 Granada CL/GL came with manually operated sunroof.  So far, no luck in finding the plastic trim panel from one of those, but I'm still searching.  It would seem that p/n 1629796 is what I'm looking for.

In the mean time I have removed track assemblies from both the original car (motorized) and Sierra/XR4Ti (manual crank). They are identical with one exception. The splined shaft is a bit shorter on the Mk3 version vs. the XR4Ti.  The piece that houses the splined shaft appears to be riveted in place, so R&R isn't cake.

The question I have is this.... On the (Euro only) manually operated sunroof, is the long or short splined shaft used?

It doesn't look like direct image upload is provided for here, so I'll provide a link to our Merkur forum where you can see a comparison of the two shafts in my post from earlier today.

Judging by this on ebay it appears to be short:

Thanks.  Funny enough, I'm already "watching" that auction.  It does seem that both motorized and manual crank got the same shorty splined stub, as I can't find anything other than the short one being available.  It would be nice to know for sure.
