I remember a long time back someone else did this job and it became quite involved. Have a search on the site using the search facility and see if it throws something up. otherwise its a log search going back through very early posts. GOOD LUCK! ;D |

Title: Re: Manual to autobox? Post by PJDavis on Sep 15th, 2018, 10:28am I believe it can't be done! The end of the crankshaft is different. I'm almost certain that the centre of the end of the crankshaft on a Manual car is designed to accept a 'Pilot-bearing', and even with this pilot bearing removed the recess isn't large enough to accept the 'dimple' on the end of the converter. I know this for petrol cars, I'm not sure about the 'oilers', I think the Oilers had a common crankshaft. The only reason I know (or Think I know) is because the exact same problem presented itself with a Triumph Stag I had, that blew it's manual 'box. So When the question came up on here previously, I did a bit of measuring on a Scorpio 2 litre engine I had, and compared Manual end of input shaft, and crankshaft end on an Autobox car. I think someone has done the conversion, but as our learned friend above says, it's very involved. |
