Title: traction control
Post by Torbayboy on Mar 15th, 2019, 1:54pm
Noticed that traction control was cutting in when not needed (slight uphill slightly damp road and not pushing it at all) seems to hold back pedal and shift a gear - light flashes for 3-5seconds, cannot figure out why.
SO... I switched it off  ???

Any ideas?  Have had the notorious lazy airbag on at times also, but this has since cleared with t/c off.....so far (its a Scorpio so anything can happen:D

All comments welcome

Have you had any new tyres as that made mine playup, speed was about 50 mph.

Hello Gerald.

Had "new" to me tyres lately, from "Movvy" who came with a spare set of (sexy) black 12 spokes - they look lovely too, on the state blue cossie saloon.

Tyres are hardly used and the teardrops I had with the car had michelins on (fall apart before they wear out specials), so yes it has had certainly all new to this car wheels and tyres fitted.
How did yours work out in the end?

I swopped fronts to rear and that sorted it.  They were the new ones I had put on the front to start with. I could not go over 50 with the TC on.

Hi

I cant do that with these as 2 different sizes :(

Roy.   The TC won't like the thinner tyres being on the driving-axle, and possibly not like the fact that they are chunkier.   The tyres will definitely grip differently which will upset the TC.

Difference in rolling radius between front & rear tyres as little as 2% can cause the sensors to throw a wobbly.

Thanks for all your help.
looks like 2 of the tyres need swapping out as Mike has pointed out the rolling radii are quite different.

Spannerman (actually a qualified MOT tester and lecturer in car mechanics) looked into which should go on the rear axle, and as Peter has noted the "skinnies" are at the back, so will have to look again.

Another point is am Iactually damaging the T/C system?
When it happens it is not the normal way the  T/C lights up, more of a steady "warning" type of 2-5 seconds of flashing, like the O/D light when your gearbox is dying!!

Can I temporarily cure this by simply turning T/C off?-troble there though is when you turn off the ignition the nexct time you start up the default is T/C on

Was going to take the car for a short planned holiday next week, but unless this is resolved or definately safe to use with take the estae instead
Thanks all.
Roy

traction control will now not turn off on the switch, light takes some 8-10 seconds to go out now on start up. Have not been able to go to spanner man, and am away later this week for a few days
