Has anyone changed this valve or is it a job for the A/C specialist. I know the system has to be drained. My idea was to get the system drained, change the valve myself and then get a re-gas. Or would it make sense to let the A/C guy do the whole job.

Reason is fans on high speed much of the time when last summer they hardly hit full speed at all.

Personally I would get an A/C guy to do the whole job.
I think you need to have a qualification to work on A/C these days ?

Hello Scorpio mike is right, you have to be qualified to do A/C nowadays.
Had a problem with the new estate's A/C snd local spanner told me this as he was working on it.

Any ideas of how big a job it is (thinking of cost actually) :(

Hi Tony
I think my expansion valve may be blocked, air con is not very cold and compressor is noisy. The pressure is in the green untill you turn the air con on and then drops to zero. Have you got any other problems other than the fan speed.

No A/C working fine and nice and cold. Only problem is the fans coming on high speed too early. I have read on here somewhere that it is probably caused by a sticking (needle)?? in the expansion valve.

I am guessing it is A/C related because it doesn't happen if the A/C is switched off.

Hi there

You can usually clear the valve by putting system in to a deep vacuum for a good few minutes.
Used to do this to my old car, back in the day.
