Title: upgrading a base spec scorpio
Post by Torbayboy on Jul 29th, 2019, 5:27pm
Is it possible to upgrade a base spec scorpio with the better things from a ghia or ultima, looking at more basic stuff like the trip computer and electric seats etc not air con to climate, would not be looking to bigger engine etc or diesel to petrol.
Any advice welcome so long as not rude:)

Also is it a gigantic job to put the driver in the right seat if you buy a foreign scorp?, do the wiring looms flip sides (together with the battery etc) or do you just give up and drive from the passenger seat?

Are you considering a LHD to RHD conversion ?
Anything is doable but that would be a massive undertaking.

Hi Mike,

Not really considering the LHD to RHD, just wondered if anyone had done it:)

I presume the car is the same and just the "bits" move around. I see so many tidy scorps on the continent and over here the banger boys get them first, that together with a total lack of interest from the Brits (other than the nice people in Dawlish car show recently) means a really clean car is either owned by a member here or, virtually non existant.

Which leads me on to the possible upgrade for a base spec motor, staying with the same engine, but adding the niceities from the Ultima spec.

Cheers  Roy

Adding extra bits such as missing optional extras may be possible as often the connections are present in the main wiring loom ready to have something plugged into them. Some optional extras may come with a sub-loom.

I had a basic spec Sierra XR4i many years ago and easily added electric windows, central locking & trip computer from parts I got from breakers - the connections were present on the main loom, just had to add the sub-looms.

To convert LHD to RHD is a total pain because all the holes & mounting in the bulkhead for things like the pedal box & steering column will be in the wrong places. Fuseboxes & battery will also be on the wrong sides.
