Having trouble with the locking on 95 estate tailgate, is the lock assembly same/similar as the one on the saloon?

Problem is the tailgate wont open on central locking or on the key (never did work on c/locking).

Managed to get it open and doctor the lock so the key works but as we have a spare saloon will the lock assembly from the boot on this do the job.

The locks have different part numbers - don't know if you can use part of them.
The latches are different.
The problem with central locking could be the lock motor - I think it quite likely they're the same but don't know for sure.

Make sure the lock button comes all the way out if it's sticking only slightly you may not be able to unlock with the key - try turning the key slightly & pulling the button out with it. A squirt of WD40 may free it off.

Have search on the main web pages I seem to remember Eric R Had a problem with the solenoid not working properly.
