Hi,

98 2.3 Estate, late model. Air bag light flashing with 5 flashes, but scan says "B1993" Offside side bag ignition circuit fault.  ??? ???

Any suggestions / help appreciated.

Pete, this is the drivers side airbag, mounted in the outside edge of the seat back.  BUT don't fiddle with it until you've disconnected the battery and waited 20 minutes to let the airbag circuit discharge, or it could go off when you're close to it and spoil your whole day.

Check the 5 multiplugs beneath your seat for tightness and condition, then reconnect the battery and see if that clears it.  You're looking for a connector with a violet/orange wire and a black/red wire - these are for the side airbag.

Big, big thanks to Eric.

After much twisting and turning to get at them, turns out that a wire had broken in one of the circuits. Fixed it and now all is well.
