Title: is it me ??
Post by bizzay1 on Aug 29th, 2006, 8:57am
OK - I have a cable like the third one down http://www.obd-2.com/routepit.htm connected with a serial usb adapter to a new 64 bit laptop, the software connects to the car but would only appear to read codes, the virtual dashboard dosn't work and if I send a request for anything else it just gets a message saying that the request cannot be performed.

Although I have tried various things with the settings & options nothing seems to make a difference, could it be that the laptop is too modern/powerful ?? or it's the wrong cable (it only has 5 pins) ?? or is it me not knowing what I'm doing ??

Any help would be appreciated

I had loads of problems with the USB-Serial adapter route. In the end I binned it and picked up a PCMCIA serial card on eBay for not very much. That has a "proper" serial port on it and VE hasn't missed a beat since.

When you connect are you selecting PID possible in the DATA tab then selecting for example RPM then SEND?
Do the values show up?

tried that and got some responses, but the connection seems to drop, I tried it in a different usb port & that was a little better, think I might go with a pcmcia adapter (or buy an old cheepy lappy)
