Title: can read abs codes at last!
Post by pedropedro on Oct 19th, 2006, 11:59am
just received alex peper's tricom cable ...it works first time (re advanced codes abs)  no trouble with the same serial usb adaptor i had before, when trying with the pwm iso blue cable i bought from him.

The iso pwm cable he sells for some reason doesnt communicate with the scorpio..folk need know so to not waste money buying that cable.

now i can see the abs controller motor has a fault code and i would have wasted by time trying to clean sensors. got there in the end just took 3 months !

all i know is I couldnt get my iso/pwm cable to read abs codes..it read from the power train ok. tried for 3 months to get someone to say they had read abs codes and asked for advice.

getting to communicate with the iso side re the advanced codes is tricky.....for whatever reason the tricom cable definitely works ........if somone has got the blue iso pwm cable to read abs codes theyve yet to confirm that.

Hi Pedro,
Glad you got it sorted. I was about to upgrade to PMW/ISO but will now go for Tricom. Did you trade in your PMW/ISO cable? If so, how long did it take?

Ive emailed Alex asking if he will trade in ...no answer yet

he said he would previously so no reason to suppose he wouldnt...but he wouldnt trade a basic pwm cable i dont think..the tricom has a largish box with electronics in it that interfaces with the cable

So can I just confirm, is it the Tricom cable which is the one to go for?  And what connection type does the Tricom have at the computer end?

Are people getting better results with serial or USB connections, or is there no difference?

yes.. the other ones dont read the abs codes or at least they wouldnt on my car...they all have serial cables so needs a usb converter...i dont think anyone has been able to read abs codes probably due to the pwm/iso cable not connecting communicating

get the tricom with a usb adaptor

hi there

do you have a note of the VE settings that you used to connect to the abs.

thanks

its not too tricky; assuming you have got the software running and its communicating select the "data" tab, then go to the top menu "advanced" ..then pull down the menu which is defaulted to "all" and find abs ......let me know if you have a problem

hi there

that's the easy bit! ;)

as soon as i try to access the abs (iso) is hangs the connection. try various settings, but no use.

hell, it even changes settings itself!

it giving me a sore head!

what i need is something along the lines of...

tick pwm, tick iso, etc.....

cheers

btw, the issue is with a galaxy, but it won't talk to my scorpio (only talks to the engine on both cars).

I am assuming you have the tricom cable with the box that plugs into the obd socket? the basic pwm/iso cable didnt work for me.

Can sense your frustration with this ..it drove me nuts; software is not friendly and is buggy.

go to options/gateway

filters page tick all boxes
protocol page tick all boxes except..send mode/initiate mode/CAN/default (sae ISO)  ....speed set to 120

interface page both ports must be the same and tick the tricom interface nothing else ticked

hope this is what you wanted..john

it worked on my car, now to get the galaxy back and try it on it!

thanks very much.

Hi, standing in the garage with the OBS on. C1267 rear right inlet solenoid fault. How do we find it?

I don't have the "Advanced" button on the data tab on my VE software version 151.

Or does it only appear once connected and communicating with the car?

Or only on higher versions of the VE software?

Well ive found the "codes" enhanced diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) page where you can select different options for the codes but all i get from the ABS selection is "Connecting to server" and thats it.

My cable is the PWM/ISO cable with seven pins in the red ODB2 connector, but i cannot read the ABS codes.

HAve tried all the settings mentioned in over posts etc but still cannot read them.

Has anyone managed to read ABS codes with the PWM/ISO cable and if so what wre your settings and VE software version?

Cheers

thats how i started this thread, trying to find if anyone could get the pwm iso cable to read abs codes..

i couldnt, however many ways  i tried..got/exchanged for the tricom cable and bingo first time it worked

Title: Re: can read abs codes at last!

Have tried it with and without this clicked.  Just spent another 90 minutes trying to read the codes.  Did notice however that on the log page of VE the coloured connection button near the bottom changes from green to yellow/red when trying to read the ABS codes then once this has failed it sometimes goes back to green or i have to end the connection and re-connect again.

Does this mean there is a fault either with mt lead or the OBD socket?

Yet my neighbour managed to read the ABS codes 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Sometimes get a message similar to "ISO server failed to respond" or similar can't remebder exactly what it read.

This is really infuriating, i thought the PWM/ISO lead was capable of reading the ABS codes, at least that's what Alex Peper told me anyway.

If you look at the end of the thread below there's something about how the green/yellow/red button displays on mine:

Hi guys,

Read all about your experimenting and success at last - hate to do it all over again! I would appreciate your guidance here.

In my local garage they use a laptop and a Box from Bosch including Bluetooth datatransfer... € 50 / session

I've got this old laptop sitting here with a USB and/or a serial port -- what exactly do I need to order from Mr . USA to be able to read all engine and ABS DTC codes and stuff from my Cossie?

Any particular partnumbers, cables, plugs?
Software, where does that come from?
Is that just a free download when you buy the cables?

Looking forward,
Ray

Order the lead from here:
http://www.obd-2.com/

I use a tricom with a serial port.

Although the pwm/iso is supposed to work most people seem to have trouble connecting to the ABS with it.
Best to go for the tricom or if your budget will run to it the trican will support all 1996-2008+ vehicles.
If you’re going for the usb, it seems best to get the adapter at the same time, as some people have had trouble with other adaptors.

You can download the software and try it out with some sample scans on your desktop, but it will only connect to the car with a lead bought from them.

Software version 1.51 is the last stable version for the Scorpio.

I thought the latest version 1.63 had resolved the issues as it was working fine, until I found it would not clear the ABS codes for me.

To download Ver 1.51 with all the files add   /ve151all.exe    to the site address.

Same for me; sent 3 mails now; has he gone under with the carindustry?

Is there a new emailaddress available?

Anybody got a clue?

Is he the only supplier?

Curious,
Ray

Hi there!

I'm using ScanXL ELM (http://www.palmerperformance.com/products/scanxlelm/index.php) program to connect to my Scorp. And my own-made cable based on ELM327 chip.

VE cannot work with this cable. It's cable also based on ELM327, but it seems that it makes some conversion in cable between PC's RS232 and ELM327.

The ScanXL program works ok, except the fact that it's sharpened for american fords.
It has ability to connect to any car via Generic ODBII, but for some enhanced diagnostics you have to select the kind of car.  So to connect to my Scorp I just select other ford (I tried Ranger and Taurus)

When I connect to Powertrain module I can read enhanced ford diagnostics info, freeze frame data, RPMs, and so on.
But when I connect to ABS and try to get trouble codes - it reports nothigs (as it would be ok).
When I got to service, they used VehicleEexplorer - and it showed C1155 and C1233 (LF sensor). My ABS light is always ON.

There's ability to pass OBDII commands manually.
Do you know if VE have the ability of logging ODBII commands it sends?
If so I coud enter ODBII commands myself to get ABS codes.

Or if someone could send me a shceme of VE's adapter i could change my cable to be able to work with VE.

Thanks

My Scorpion occasionally there are errors of all sensors. At the end of braking sometimes works AVS. Error is not on the cliff sensors, different "speed".
