Title: Opinions on ElmScan 5?
Post by TiberiuS on Dec 7th, 2006, 6:26pm
Hey all. I'm thinking about getting a fault code reader, not only for the Jag (God forbid the wrath of the big cat ::)) but also for the Scorpio/Mondeo. The Jag uses the ISO interface while the Fords use the PWM, someone over on the XJ forum said a good laptop based reader is the ElmScan 5 from www.motorscan.net and apparently this should also read the Ford codes too, does anyone have any opinions on it?

Thanks as always.

Regards, Bruce ;).

hi there

cost wise, there's not much in it. most of us use obd-2 (http://www.obd-2.com/#order), so we can share the 'live' scans. if you get the tricom or above, it will scan most/every type of car.

Thanks Andrew. I'm still debating on which one to get, I'm getting myself a laptop for my next course anyway so the scanner sounds like a good idea.

When I get hold of one I'll be able to do scans for members in this part of the country ... if anyone needs one just shout ;)

Regards, Bruce.

hi bruce

dowload the free working copy (http://www.obd-2.com/#download) (won't connect to a car) to get a feel for it.
