Title: OBD USB on Ebay - Anyone tried these?
Post by davem on Mar 28th, 2008, 7:11pm
I was just cruising (as I do) on ebay and came across this...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OBD-OBD2-ELM327-USB-CAN-BUS-Tool-Interface-Scanner-327_W0QQitemZ200211412834QQihZ010QQcategoryZ30921QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It only costs 1p...oh and £16.99 for postage. That's just to make sure you dont return it for a refund when you find it doesn't work  :)

I was wondering if anyone had tried these cheaper USB OBDs from China and HK?

Hi Dave. It's built around the ELM327 chip, you can buy the chips alone for about £20 AFAIK. Add in bulk purchase of chips and 'Made in China', go figure how cheap they can be ::)

But if it's anything like my Elmscan the interface works well, tried mine on a few Jags, 2 Scorps and a couple of other makes, no problems.

OBD-II ScanMaster by Wladimir Gurskij

This and some of the other software in that list is NOT free software, ScanMaster is a d**n good program but I paid £80 for it alone...some of the other software there is pricey. Either someone's telling porkies or you get a lot of pirated software in there, if you're honestly getting all that software for £20, I'd jump in quick ;D ;)

Regards, Bruce.
