Title: Home Diagnostics
Post by jorgei on May 14th, 2008, 12:48pm
Hi folks, I'm new on this, and have already read the section about the, but didn’t understand the section how to connect the cable from the car to the computer. By that I mean how the cable is built up (pin to pin connection). I see you people are referring to several suppliers but not how to come in contact with them.

So, my question is:  ???
  • Can I make this cable by my self?
  • What to buy and where?
  • What is the price on this?
  • Any webpage’s about this?

I know I have to start somewhere, but can’t pinpoint were.

My car is:
2.0i-16V Sedan / Kombi      136      10.94-08.98      N3A
Modell:      Scorpio, 95-98
KW:      100
Volum:      1998
Sylinder:      4
Karosseri:      GNR/GGR
TecDoc:      4697, 4701
RB Nøkkel:      FOR 1556, FOR 1547

Do you need any more info?

I have looked into this page: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/homediag.htm

And also the pages you have writhed down, so fare so good, but next:

I’d been into the "www.obd-2.com” page, but it seems to me that I can't use this program nor have I just misunderstood? It's says that I must use:

Connector Location:
1996 Ford Scorpio connector position not available

Network:
1996 Ford Scorpio network is PWM

And therefore this solution: PWM- $122 + USB adapter $12 + 3 day Ship Free = $134

I must use the USB port.

Can I stile use than same software "Car Code  OBD-2"? Or do I have to order something completely different?

I know some off you thinking “what a hell is he talking about”, same did I to begin with.

But anyway the car is beginning to a bit old and I’m not interested to pay a lot of money in repair work as long I can do this by my self. I’m an engineer of educated, but still this will be a new area for me anyhow I see it.

So there for this slow starting “I want to have all the information inside my head before I start doing some thing”

NB: thank you for answering my anyway.

Hi Jorgei,
when you buy the cable you'll get an 'activation code' that will allow the software to run.

You don't have to buy anything else  :)

Then just follow instructions on site to start scanning

Hi. You can buy seperate software with more features but the default software (in this case the OBD-II one) is normally pretty good, I downloaded the demo and it seemed well featured.

Yes, you need a USB or serial port depending on the scanner, I've got an Elmscan USB and some extra software which does live graph readouts and can output to spreadsheets but the basic software which comes with the Elmscan can still read sensors and reset fault codes fine.

Hope this helps :)

Regards, Bruce.

Hi folks

I'm back again from a longer trip.

Now back to the problem. I can't connect to the PCM controller, and there must be something from the plug to the controller or something with the controller it self. Is there someone that has the wiring number from the plug to the controller? Want check these first.
Have anyone had this problem before?

Have tried the software program on a Mondeo 96, and got connection right away. So the installation of the software and notebook is correct.

Well, it's your turn now to come up with solutions now. ;)

Never mind if the translation is not correct.

I'll believe I'm got the wrong one, or have I misunderstand everything here?

I have ordered from: http://www.obd-2.com/dlcnet.html
and from this site my Scorpio is an "PWM", but from the web side: http://www.myscantool.com/vehicles.html#ford
My car is an "ISO".

Can any one confirm that the web "obd-2.com" is selling the wrong one? ???

I tried to contacted Alex C. Peper, but only getting error message back, the this web do not accepts mails?

Maybe this is the reason why I can't connect to my car.

hi there

the scorpio is pwm for the engine side of things and iso for the abs, etc side.

i'd double check the settings again and then have a look at the plug connector on the car to make sure all the pins are ok.

i've heard of some very late 2.3's not connecting but not a 2.0.

I've already checked the plug, and there is no problem with this one. I'll used the same settings then I connected to the Mondeo, and this car connected strait away, but not mine. Have used several settings that have been printed in this forum, but without any luck so fare.

Have you a final set up list that I can use?

This is the last set-up I'll have.

http://www.car.joergensen.no/images/Verson.JPG
http://www.car.joergensen.no/images/Protocol.JPG
http://www.car.joergensen.no/images/Interface.JPG
http://www.car.joergensen.no/images/Filter.JPG

And the driver is: http://www.car.joergensen.no/images/hl-340.exe, this is the file that followed the software I got from the US.

So the only thing left now, is wiring from the plug and to the PWM box. Do you have the wiring plan over this part. Going to start on this to day.

This is interesting - any more info on the 2.3s not connecting?

I have the same problem and at the Kent meet we found my OBD set up could connect to Dave's (Tompions) car but not mine and no ones elses OBD set up could connect to mine either!

I am planning to try a battery disconnect and then re-try but I havn't had time!

Jorgei - may be worth trying the same - I have the wiring
diagrams on my web site - the one you want should be here (http://www.fordscorpio95plus.co.uk/schem/10.pdf)

Some updating from last time:

thanks to Daven, I'm manage to test, and check the wiring fast and easy. So, now what ??

Everything from the DLC connector to the EEC-V is correct, and whit out any problems there.

You can see this from my scanned pages: http://www.car.joergensen.no/images/File0004.PDF

And an overview over the EEV-V with and without starting block. sorry, haven't got time to translate jet.
http://www.car.joergensen.no/images/File0005.PDF

Have to look into the software or the blue cable, the problem is here, some were.

If there are someone out there that have a Scorpio 2.0 DOHC, and using the same program. pls come forward and tell me what set up you ar using in the software.

Do you get a green light at all? or only Y and R.

Going out for renting a video, given up to day.

On the code reader it just said 'ERROR'!

I have the PWM lead which I bought before we knew about the ISO bit! Which lead did you get? Have you tried setting the interface to Blue route?

OK, I'm back.

Yes, I have done that to.

Still problem with the program.

Got green light, but that's it.

Are the anyone out there having a Scorpio 2.0 DOHC 16 V 96

Engine N3A

The ini file I have on the program is:

Was to long.

Just made a web side for easy viewing.
http://www.car.joergensen.no

Can someone check this with the ini file you got?

I have connected to a N3A using the settings I posted previously.

You could try removing the ini file, you will then need to re enter your code (this will set the gateway to the default for your type of lead).

Both my leads have the same code except for the suffix. It seems that suffix sets the gateway for the type of lead and is then dropped from the password in the ini file.

So for my single lead:
XXXXXXXXXXP
For my Tricom:
XXXXXXXXXXM

When you say you’ve got the green light, do you mean on the log page?
I can’t find a way of getting the green light without it connected (maybe it’s different with USB).
What error messages are you getting at the bottom of the log page?

Message: no connection.

Tried to disconnect the cable, and I’m still got the green light, with these settings I have now. ??? ???

I'm doing not understand the problem at all now.

I'm going to wised a friend that have a scan tool, when am off the rig again i two weeks.

Am starting to believe that that the car unit it self is not responding at all.

Haven't tryed this yet:
So for my single lead:
XXXXXXXXXXP
For my Tricom:
XXXXXXXXXXM

What lead are you using? I could send you my ini file to try.

Seems odd you get the green light if it hasn’t connected, maybe something to do with USB.
I get the green light when successfully connected, if I disconnect the lead the green light stays until I try to retrieve data, and then it goes red.

(If the green light means you have connected you should find on the codes page the non-uniform codes library has changed from core to ford.)

I couldn’t see anything much different in you ini file, slightly different settings (also different to the ones you posted before)

Mine doesn’t have the entry at the bottom (maybe to do with USB?):
[cane]
proto=0

I tried setting up a fresh version of the software in a new folder with your ini file & it wouldn’t work tried unticking things one by one, but it still wouldn’t work (might just be a problem caused by copying from the website)

You should be able to have as many versions of the software installed as you like in separate folders, working with there own settings, but it might be worth deleting everything and starting again.

Until you get it working it might be an idea to go to options/homepage & change the settings to:
Data collect to Never
Tick auto connect
Don’t tick show prompt

It won’t help the connection, but it’ll stop you being nagged to save data etc :)(makes shutting down & restarting much easier)
