I have tried these:

ScanXL (Works, but costs $189,90 . Supports displaying ABS codes ) EDIT: DOES NOT SHOW ABS CODES
Vehicle Explorer (Does not initialize connection)
ScanTool (Worked once, then moans about ELM327 device not being genuine ::) Does not support ABS codes?)
OBD2SPY (Does not initialize connection)
Obd2Crazy (Works but has only basic features)

Yes, I followed this from step 8: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=OBD;action=display;num=1157053906
and tried different baud rates but wont work. ScanXL (dashboard with evaluation version) and OBD2Crazy (got 1 error code but not anything for ABS) worked great with baud rate of 38400.

VE will only work with a lead from alex pepper.

I bought ScanXL std + Ford addon

Does ABS fault codes come while driving or are they stored (I got zero of them)?

Codes are stored for the later ABS units.
I'm not sure about the earlier units.

Is it true that only Alex Peppers Tricom cable shows abs codes? That costs $240 :|

only the Tricom and Trican cables from Alex show ABS codes yes

I have the Trican lead but it was bought when the exchange rate was $2 to the £ ;D

Not sure I understand the question.

The Trican lead seems to work with nearly everything..

So far only had connection problems with Landrover and VW/Audi which have their own special software I believe

Does anyone sell inside EU, for example in UK that cable? (Dont want to pay import taxes)

Is it then really the lead or is it the software, e.g. Alex' lead with ScanXL? Clearly VE wants to ban other leads from working?

I would "imagine" as the VE software is freely available that some sort of security is in place in the software, lead or both that only allows Alex's lead to communicate with it.

the lead and the software (VE) are both made by alex.

iirc, we all think it's something programmed in to the 'black box' on the lead that makes it work.

Exactly as I thought then. OT, but e.g. with my HP laptop I can't upgrade the WiFi card, because of a hardcoded list of allowed cards in the bios. To make the non-proprietary card working one needs to go about the bios code with a hex editor with the hardware id of the new card, which is a one off. You either end up with an upgraded wifi card or a dead computer...

hope you still readthis. I also have the ScanXL with Ford Add-On but can't read my Scorpio.

I asked this question earlier but I still can't get it to work.

With the Ford Add-On there are some standard Ford models in my car listing but they are all American models and the Scorpio is not listed.

If I create my own car profile with Scorpio as car type the enhanced diagnostics are not available.

Howdid you read the powertrain information with your ScanXL?

I used 1998 Ford Ranger 2.5L "setup"

Vehicle Explorer is perfect but needs equipment from www.obd-2.com. It is possible to get ABS codes with VE. Even though it is costly, I highly recommend it if you have any problems with ABS system.
