Title: Code P1131
Post by Scorpio_Mike on Mar 28th, 2010, 9:21pm
Pegasus kindly did an OBD scan on my 2.3 at the Kent meet today and the only code showing was :

P1131 Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 1.

Is this anything to be too concerned about ?
What needs fixing ?

Thanks.

Mike, Isn't it the Lamda sensor ??. Has a wire come off??.
This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ho2smonitor.htm) may help particularly the section headed 'Troubleshooting'.

It may also be the lambda sensor is just dead. No switching means it just reports a flat value. They're supposed to last 60K, but may last longer. I've seen them on ebay with ford specific plug for around 20 pounds.

Cheers guys  :)
Will investigate further and report.
Car has done 144k so maybe sensor has gone kaput  ???

OK, dumb question time now...

Does a 2.3 16v have 1 or 2 lambda sensors ?

Just the pre cat sensor.

According to this site it should be a planar type:

Hi Mike,
have a look HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/obd2scan3.htm).

Also the LTFTs were ok on the scan so no faulty FP Reg or leaking vacuum pipes.

The graph of the pre cat sensor showed v slow switching - so may be on way out.

However, the enhanced scan reading 'O2S11_FL' (O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 has failure) says "No"  ??? Perhaps someone else may have an answer to this

Paul
