Title: Garmin Diagnostic Sensor for use with Scorpio?
Post by Bulgarien on May 14th, 2011, 10:12pm
My new navigator Garmin Nuvi  3790 (iphone look) have  a real-time diagnostic computer build  in, callede  ecoRoute HD, and to get it full functional, I only  need to buy a obd sensor box to 100$

Then I olso can monitor the vehicle performance and provides detailed system data, including manifold pressure, air intake temperature, timing advance and more in the display wireless.

I read that Ford Scorpio from 96 use OBD 1,5, but Wikepedia wrote that in US they also called version 1,5 for OHD 2,0 ?

Wikipedia: "OBD 1.5 refers to a partial implementation of OBD-II which General Motors used on some vehicles in 1994 and 1995 (GM did not use the term OBD 1.5 in the documentation for these vehicles - they simply have an OBD and an OBD-II section in the service manual.)"

Can we use Garmins Engine Diagnostic Sensor to our loved Scorpio?

Thank for all yours  help, love this forum!  :)

Garmin ecoRoute HD is designed and tested to meet the OBD II specifications that are required on most 1996 and newer cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. In Europe, OBD II specifications are required on most petrol cars from 2001 and most light duty diesel vehicles from 2003. Extensions were granted to manufacturers of some vehicles.

hi there

most scorpio's are obd2 compatible, but there is a few that are not.

it could be a wiring issue, rather than a ecu issue, but i've found a few that were 'difficult' to connect with.

if it was me, i'd rather spend my money on a dedicated obd2 reader, than something for a sat nav.

I know there are a lot of solutions out there , but you have to admit that if Garmin eco route HD works with our loved Scorpios , then is it near perfect - everything in only one single display!  :D

Can you please tell us more about this. My Scorpio is from 96,  bought in Germany

hi there

not a lot i can add.

i've had a 2.3 and a 2.9 24v that i couldn't connect to.

also had a 2.9 24v that i could only read error codes, but not live data.

this was all on the same day, using my reader (see signature).

i know where you are coming from with having only to use one unit.

do you not know someone with a reader so you can check to see if your car connects ok before buying the garmin unit?

The 12v’s and diesels (there may be some exceptions with diesels) are not OBD 11.

Some off 2.3’s can be very reluctant to connect for the first time (it would seem to be mainly later 2.3’s) although if the reluctant ones do eventually connect they’re fine for future connections.

Whether or not you’ll get ABS codes is another matter.
