Title: 24v 1998 - ODB Scanner required
Post by hoylegj on Oct 20th, 2019, 9:00pm
Hi,  sorry by struggling to understand the which ODB scanner will work and be the best for this year.    I believe they changed the ODB protocol on the later versions.

I need :-
1) to update PATS.  I have 1 key, but need to add the master and a second key.
2) anyone know what protocol is required to make a ODB connection, need to connect a LPG system to it as will.

For PAT, I'm thinking a ELM327 and FORScan, would this do the job.

For the LPG, not sure what protocol the LPG ODB reader needs to be able to read.

Hope that makes sense.  Thanks very much in advance for your help.

Regards Geoff.

It was only the 12v & diesels that differed (older protocol).
OBD2 for all others.
You can't update PATS with Forscan although I have a feeling you may be able to pay for a temporary update to do so but I could be wrong - have a read of their website.

Thanks will review your link next.

After more research, this is what I'm thinking..

Ford used protocol PWM J1850 from 1995 for ODB2

The software FORScan uses Fords service level protocols which ford implemented as HS/MS CAN, this are implemented in the modified switched EML327 readers. This enables access to Fords service features

Hi Geoff,

Just a thought the LPG system normally has it's own software and diagnostic software, What system is the LPG and google diagnostic software for it. The software will do everything from setting the LPG up to diagnostics as the LPG has it's own brain and plug in port. Hope this helps.
