Title: Why don't people learn to drive properly???
Post by Vulcan on Sep 22nd, 2004, 12:30am
On my way home every night I have to cross a large and busy roundabout linking the A69 with the A1... coming up to the roundabout if you want to go straight on you are in the second lane as the inside has compulsory left. Every time I am in the second lane I have an idiot in the lane to my right who should also go straight on but follow the lane... we move off and I stick to my lane.. on exit the A1 slip lets traffic filter on the left so my lane logically hits the second lane and the lane to my right hits the outside.
What do you know but every idiot comes across to my lane on exiting the roundabout cutting me up badly. Then when I get all horny at them they get annoyed at ME!!! Bleedin' useless plonkers who can't read the road markings!!!!

Arrgh every time I hit this roundabout why is it that I am the only one who can read the road...???

For anyone in Newcastle it is the A69 (West Road) coming up from the Denton Hotel Roundabout heading over and up towards Hexham, crossing the A1.

I can honestly say that wherever I am in the country I will READ the road and be in the correct position to go where I want to be and if I make a mistake I will go with it and stay correctly in my lane and not violently try to correct, until I can sort out where I need to be ... doubling back if necessary.

Ranting is now over..... just wondering who I should talk to to get this piece of road sorted as one day there is going to be a major pile up at this point.

George, you could allways get a Sherman tank (around £10k) for the run to and from work. Problem solved! no one will cut you up!! I know what you mean though- its the same around here. john.n >:(

I have a spare pair of  cannons from a vulcan if you want to mount them, I had the same problem the other day down here in the Boro but my mate who drives me has a very short fuse and huge hands so the d/h who cut us up said a very big sorry when he stopped him at the next traffic lights. Where are these traffic police men chappies when you want one, sat behind the speed camera perhaps?
 regards 1/2" ;) ;) ;)

 >:( Totaly agree. I see it at the roundabout in Crayford High Street, at the bottom of Station Road. Also the Crayford One Way System. People just dont see the Road markings / Signs these days, Muchless read the Highway Code. It seems the rule of "I'm alright Jack **** you", rules

My pet hate is following some one up to a roundabout which obviously has no traffic coming from the right or turning right accross your path and what do they do ..........bloody stop.

I agree with you on that one David - accounts for the proliferation of broken glass at most roundabouts - Why is that some people seem incapable of looking to the side instead of straight ahead without stopping first?

ARghhhhhhhh !

My father in law totalled his 2.9 Ford Granada Scorpio in just this manner... lady in an Escort in front came to a stop at a roundabout he pulled up behind.. she started to move off as nothing was coming.. he looked right and accellerated as he saw no traffic.. sadly she had stopped again for no good reason and he piled into the back of her with 2.9 alacrity  ;) (as in moving off flippin' quick)

There didn't actually look to be a lot of damage but the insurance company said it would cost several thou to fix.. just looked a bit wrinkled to me but I'm no expert in vehicular damage.

Just another case of people not being able to drive properly..... I hate blowing me own trumpet but I can say that when driving I am AWARE of what is behind as well as what is in front and coming from two sides.. I haven't had any sort of accident at all and I've been driving since 1976...

In reply to the original posting topic "Why don't people learn to drive properly" Well it might be better if they were taught to drive rather than pass a test.... thats why IMHO.....

In relation to stopping at a roundabout if you did'nt stop there during you driving test you would have failed, and people are not logicaal enough to think for them selves doing everything by the book, and causing people behind who would have kept on going who expected the car infront not to stop to activate the ABS aggresivley, yes I have to say it has happend to me.

the amount of drivers who and what gender I'm not going to specify drive with blinkers on. I live on a busy road and on many a occasion I have to go accross one lane to turn right and loads of people wont even let me cross there path, I not even going the same direction as them and sit infront of me ignoring me!! >:(. I flash the lights at them and the just ignore me ahhh your holding me up! ::). How can you not see a Scorpio?

When I cycle drivers dont even see me, drive right up behind me and scare the life outa me. and when I go onto a roundabout they just cut me up, pull outin front of me, blow the horn at me, stick to fingers at me. and the Wife cycles to and she was called a lunatick and to get of the road and on to the foot path and that the road was not for bikes. mmmmm.

There needs to be more bike lanes!!! TONY are you listning to me? ;D

THere you go rant over.

Its a rat race out there and I could go on all day about people, Road works, people cutting in at the last minute aaaahhhhhahahahah beep BEEP fist up. :-X

HAhaha going mad now.

Sometimes you are behind someone at a roundabout.. you watch them.. they move off into a space so you look right and see your space and the whole unconscious thing kicks in. You press the loud pedal and look up but lo and behold the person in front decided  there wasn't enough time between now and next christmas to get out and stops dead without looking to see if there is anyone behind or even if there is anyone else on the road today.. at all.
With the best of luck you stop before you hit them but in the eyes of the law the guy behind is at fault... I hate this particular law...IMHO if you stop dead after starting to move it's YOUR fault.. I would accept it if I did it...

I think some of my worst near miss experiences happened a few months ago, in my old car, when I had to disconnect the horn due to it going haywire and attacking ears whenever it decided (and always when I indicated right, argh). I thought I could manage without a horn, you so rarely use it, right? It just so happened in that month I had never needed the horn more. People were literally trying to drive into me, from all angles. Though, I can understand them not being able to see a little polo. But a scorpio??

I think, John, they are simply jealous. You should set up a traffic light junction for the entrance to your driveway. Solved.

I understand where you are all coming from but I find that I can forgive the people who just cant get there tinny little brains round the confusing road laws of the roundabouts (As stated how did they pass their test).

BUT

when I’m waiting to turn right out of a T-junction or, as previously stated, when I’m waiting to enter a roundabout & the person who I am waiting for turns off without indicating. Well I see red then. I simply can’t understand what is so hard about lifting a hand to operate the little indicator arm, which is about 1 inch away from the steering wheel!!!!

To clarify my statement, why can’t every one indicate their intentions? I understand that mistakes happen but for goodness sake not the amount of times I’ve seen.

Regards

However if they're driving a Volkswagon like mine the indicators might not be working.

Apart from that, so true. Maybe their hands are too busy changing gear. Ho ho ho.

On one of my first trips in my Scorp I couldn't believe that all the traffic in front of me in the outside lane of the M25 was jumping out of my way. Couldn't work out why the remote stalk was being totally useless at skipping tracks I didn't like on the CD either...

Go figure!

He he he... now all you need is a mod that will flash the front lights alternately ( and maybe some cool blue ones hidden behind the front grille that strobe)
Then everyone will get out of your way   ;)

George,

I'd be more likely to weld/superglue a lump of crash barrier to the front ! The number of people doing 1mph more than a lorry who see you in their mirrors and pull out thinking that you must be doing the same speed they are...   >:( >:( >:(

Just remember, if God had intended idiots to drive he would have given them brains! That's probably the answer to your original question come to think of it  ;)

Cheers,
Dave
