Hello all. Can I pick your brains for a minute? Yes? Thanks ;D

Right then, earlier this year I had a shunt in my van (I rear ended an E320 Merc) :-[ Anyway, it all got sorted on the insurance and I will apparently lose half of my NCD.
Now, my insurance renewal for the Scorpio has just come through (different policy & company) and there is no mention of me having made any claims anywhere. I know they all have access to the same database, so its not difficult for them to find out.
My question is, should I tell them about it or not mention it? :-/ ::)

Legally you should tell them but it was a different vehicle.. If you do NOT and you are unfortunate to be involved in an accident and the matter is found that you didn't declare it then they make the claim void with regards the Fully comp bit..... If there is a get out clause they can use they will... believe me.. but if you don't and get away with it then ok, but my honest opinion is tell all to insurance companies......

yes you should tell them and if you have a accident in your scorp ( god i hope it never happens ) and the insurance find you have had a accident they won't pay out...but saying that i'm a lorry driver and if i told my insurance company about all the little knocks i've had in the lorry i would never get insurance so its up to you, i take the chance

Hmm... cheers guys.
I must admit, I was thinking along the same lines ((that if they can get out of a payment, they will)).
So, I suppose I will end up telling them. Hopefully it won't make much difference in cost :-/

If the van wasn't owned by you, you would get away without telling them, because they have no way of finding out who was driving company vehicles. When i was lorry driving i had about three little shunts and i was told by an insurance broker not to mention them on the private proposal form as they don't count, i was told the exact same thing when i was a bus driver for London Transport, as companies that have quite a few vehicles have a block policy and their insurance companies do not know or have to know all employeees names, as long as you work for the said company you're insured. But as its your company van your best bst is to tell them but they won't load you with any extra because of it.

i would also just like to add...
insurance company's can and will try to get out of paying out on any claim,if they can,all this personal injury stuff is costing them an absolute forune,always best to tell them everything,no matter how trivial you think it might be,always best to err on the side of caution,dont give them an opportunity to void the claim,sometimes over something very,very minor...

Update:
I phoned the insurance company (Tesco) and told them about the small bump( ::)) I'd had.
As predicted by you old experts, it made no difference to the premium on the Scorpio. So that's good news :)

Was always taught that honesty's the best policy. Maybe it's true!

Well Paul it puts your mind at rest,

I know if I was in that situ I would do the same, It must be horrible driving around thinking your never really covered by the insurance company, but at least now you no for sure you are..
