Title: Second car (Astra)
Post by philgood on Dec 1st, 2004, 1:15am
Sigh of relief.
I’ve just inherited a second car, Vauxhall Astra 1600 Auto Merit 1991.
What a bucket of s##t, but I’ve put it in wife’s name and she now has her own insurance as well, so it keeps her from bending my beloved Scorp. (Which she has done twice now!)

Phil, what puzzles me is why she had the opportunity to bend it a second time. Mine wouldn't have had the chance as she would have been divorced and living in a 1 bedroomed flat by then!!!

My wife bent it once! destroyed the boot lid with a tree. Lucky the towbar was there the protect the rest, but she never drove it again!

The reason I permitted my good lady wife to drive MY car (even after the 2 prangs), was due to the DVLA was looking after my licence for 9 months, so I had to be chauffeured around.
It’s a long story but I found out the hard way that the police don’t like being overtake on the motorway at 110 mph, so be warned! My insurance has now increased substantially as well, but I have learnt my lesson well!
Has any one else had a brush with the law involving their car?

I was stopped five times in my old car for random checks. They said I was driving perfectly well but they were concerned about the vehicle because it was left hand drive. Roar! Some police are scumbags.

Another time I had a tail light out so I was stopped (fair enough) they then made me take my license, MOT and tax proof to the police station and I had to take the car to a garage and get a stamp to say the faulty tail light had been fixed. Then I had to send this bit of paper off and hope they didn't take my license away for absolutely no reason.

I really have been unfortunate with the plods.. I actually wanted to be one for a while. Not anymore. They do a fantastic job but all they've ever done for me is make my journey take twice as long, and ruin my week.

Sorry I had to get that off my chest!

Sounds like you learned the hard way, Phil! Still, nice to be chauffeured once in a while. Maybe not for nine months : ). I'll remember to avoid overtaking coppers...
