Title: Repairs..repairs...
Post by Vulcan on Feb 3rd, 2005, 9:46pm
Well I took the Scorp into my mates garage this morning for the wishbone bushes and link arms replaced, he came on the phone mid morning and said that the brake discs were (a touch?) warped and that was contributing to the wobble on braking. :(
I said to go ahead with replacing them and the front pads then he said the rear two of the wishbone bushes were out of stock at FMD but his pal there would get them for 10 am tomorrow...oh and the track rod ends were a bit dodgy too.  doh!
So the scorp is in his place with no wheels on till tomorrow, sadly it was supposed to be in at a different garage tomorrow for the gearbox oil and filter change, had to phone ot put that off.

Ronnie (my garage mate) says the whole suspension/brake disc fix should cost me £220, the gearbox oil filter and sump gasket all done is going to cost £70

All worth it to get it all nice again   ;D

Sounds cheap enough to me George. All those parts must add up to quite a bit. Your mate must be doing you a very reasonable rate.

And I'm sure it wil feel a whole lot better when its done.

Yeah he's a good guy, plus he used to work with my father in law years ago at Priory garages before he branched out on his own. Does most stuff for me at little more than cost+ and he'd never rip me off as Keith (my father in law) would tear him a new one... ;D nah not really..just jesting...

Good guy to know though...

Got the discs and wishbones done... she now runs straight and true under any braking. My mate also sorted out the slight oddity with the steering wheel.. it was just slightly out to the right when the wheels were straight.. ok not a big problem but when you drive like me (I hook my thumbs in on the wheel) it all feels well wrong going in a straight line.
My head won't let me do this for too long.. and I sell the car...lol ;D
Anyway all the wobble is gone... the old discs were well pitted and a bit warped but that could be down to me and my hard braking... holding the brakes on and the heat transfer from the VERY hot pads locally heating the discs beyond tolerance.
Next week is the gearbox oil change... watch this space  ;D
