Title: Thinking of changing cars
Post by Robby on Feb 14th, 2005, 10:22pm
Reading rather a lot of this on here lately.

Well I'm thinking rather seriously of buying a smart roadster.  Took one out for a test drive a couple of days ago and loved it, if I drive my scorpio the way I was driving the smartie I get 6-9 Mpg...

Scorpio is nice, but for a daily 35 mile round trip of country roads its just too big, thirsty, and wallowy.  Fine for the long straight bits, but it wants to cruise at 90.  In a 50 limit.

Reliability is problem too.  I've owned it 3 months and spent about £500 on bits that shouldn't need doing much or at all giving up - Thats two wishbones, an engine wiring loom, and a coil pack and HT leads.

So I want something new, with a warranty, that does lots of miles to the gallon, and has any problems like that sorted under warranty.

I'll miss all the toys though.  Lots.  Could be a few cars until I have everything electric again.

Hi Robbie.

My missus likes the smart coupe but the thing that puts me off is the gearchange. it has been slated by all who have driven it. But its cheap and cheerfull. The one to have is the Brabaus. 2 engines welded together 2 turbo's 0-60 in 5 secs and still good economy.....

Not a simple solution - Classic Cars are like TROPHY WIVES - need high maintenance costs

Well I'm now definate on changing to a roadster.  Scorpio hasn't misbehaved, I just want a change.

So sometimes hopefully soon a roadster will be replacing it, but how much should I ask for my scorpio?

Its a 1996 2.3 ultima, 105k.  FSH, with a reciept for the last one 3k ago.  Air con has been checked and had no problems.
New engine wiring harness.
New front wishbones.
New coil pack on cyl 2+3.
Green.
VGC.

Oh and MOT until august, tax until the end of april.

I was thinking of asking about £1700 for it.  Is this too steep?  I paid £1850 for it 3 months ago, it now has no faults and gives a smooth quiet ride.
