Title: What is Kiting - Beware of Auction Scams
Post by Just Call Me Captain on Feb 17th, 2005, 3:50pm
Some unscrupulous ebayers practice KITING

Its well known with Auctions

You Bid and offer to Buy - but meanwhile......... offer the item on another Auction website..........but it is not owned by you

You can make a profit............. If you get a higher bid somewhere else.......... only then you buy and sell on to the sap.........ie the bidder

Thats why I avoid any item - when you ask a question - they say - I am not sure I am selling it on behalf of my brother / dead wifes uncle - lives in Germany etc etc

Also - watch out or suspect KITING - When they say on the ad - I reserve the right to withdraw the item as its advertised elsewhere - Who knows whether he is the rightful owner anyway -

There endeth the lesson on KITING

and captain, there are dealers selling items they have not got, like camera's, speed detectors etc. they might put say 2 dozen of them on auction as serpate items. they wait till the end of auction, then send their order into the manufacture.

That's almost Dropshipping ...if they're having their supplier post directly to their buyer, and is ok as long as it's an agreed deal with the supplier, in fact the buyer doesn't even have to know.

Thanks for the heads up!

And what is the problem? I have sold multimedia projectors on EBay which my company install into schools etc. I have sold and shipped next day straight from the manufacturer. It isn't like I'm going to buy 10 and keep them until they sell am I?

Hi Baz - Of course thats Bona Fide - You have an arrangement .

I am looking at people hijacking someone elses item and reposting it elsewhere giving the impression they own it

But that happens everywhere Michael. Most small traders will only order an expensive item once they themselves have had the order from their customers. I offer for sale to my schools, loads of items which I don't own, I merely act as a middleman and as long as the school get a good deal and I make a few quid....that's business in my book
