Title: It Snow Fun If You Leave T/C On
Post by Paul B on Feb 28th, 2005, 8:26am
The snow is about 4 inches deep here this morning. And its still coming down.  :o

Needless to say, I'm not going to go to work in this (I work outdoors), but I have taken the better half to work. And I did, of course, have a bit of fun while I was out there  ;D
Irresponsible you might say, but it just has to be done sometimes I think. And a couple of hundred horses laid down in the soft stuff made pretty patterns  ;)

But... I must say, both the Traction Control and ABS were doing their job admirably today. ABS I've benefitted from before, but today is the first 'proper' demonstration of the T/C I've had. I'm impressed at how straight it can keep you. Nice one!  8)

PS. We rolled through the 70,000 miles mark this morning too

not really had too much of the white stuff in somerset :'(
but the frost have been a bit severe :o :o..
so having the luxury of traction control as well,i must agree with paul,it's only in the last week or so that the light has ever "flickered" in the dash, but reassuring to know, that it does work when it's needed ;) ;) ;)

its much more fun with the traction turned off ,i took my 24v up over dartmoor one time after a sprinkling of snow  ,great fun just wish i could have turned off the abs as well i personally find i would rather do without it in these type of conditions if you want some fun ,obviuosly its a great safety feature ,but its nice to be reminded off the old escort /mantas etc days without any of these fun killers, just loads of grunt to the back wheels ,and steer it on the throttle, in fact my mates early Audi Quattro turbo has a switch for the abs just like we do for the t/c ,much more sensible

i think you may be a tiny bit jealous ,im just upset like Craig says we have had no snow in Somerset ,in all seriousness however i quite agree it is absolutly the wrong thing to do and i would not condone it in the local high street ,however out in the middle of nowhere with no other traffic and just myself in the car ,what the hell why not have some fun ,and in all honesty im thinking of getting rid of mine and recent values for px have been around 3-4 hundred quid so what if it breaks its worth nothing anyway or am i just being irresponsible

Didn't get any photos of the car in the snow, but it looked like this out of the lounge window this morning...

Pulled into the car park at work very early before anyone had arrived on a snowy day last week. I was greeted with a huge white blank expanse... it was too much temptation.
TCS off, head for the middle, hard right hand lock and floor it... it went round two and a bit times before i backed off. Tried to reverse into a parking space but it was no go so I had no choice but to do the whole spin in the other direction and pull front on into the farthest space from the entrance (just incase another idiot such as me should come in after ;D ;D)
Walked back to the college across the churned up snow.. was only then I remembered the four digital cameras on posts watching the car park.... nobody's said owt yet though. ;)

It'll probably be on one of those telly progs where you see drivers do stoopid things... ::)

Hmm.... not a bad picture really. Taken through the glass aswell so it might look a bit outa focus.
Had to clear a path through it earlier and chuck some grit down to please the postman, so it doesn't look quite so nice now.
Speaking of which, the car doesn't look quite so nice either. In fact it looks bloomin' awful  :'(

You're better off without it Craig  ;)

Lucky?  :-/ Hmmm..... well I took that picture, and then it all went. You could see all the grass again and everything.
Got up today at 6 and it began to snow again. By 1/4 past 6 it was really heavy, and it's been going all day. Still snowing finely now and is about 5 inches deep again.

Oh, and we went to Sainsburys earlier and guess what I found on our way out? Yep... a quiet bit of slippery car park  ;D  I had great fun. Although not quite so much when we got home and found all the shopping strewn across the inside of the boot
