Title: Tiny problem with site.
Post by Dave on Mar 19th, 2005, 7:33pm
Hi all.

Over the past few days we've been getting a Norton security warning frequently. It says 'HTTP_ActivePerl_Overflow' and we have sourced it to the main forum page on this site.

See this screenshot:
http://tinypic.com/29x0cw

The security info box in the middle is norton's warning. If I hold the mouse cursor at point [1], over 'Ads by Goooooogle', the status bar at the bottom [2] shows corresponding data to [3] in the security warning window.

The security warning alerts every time we navigate to or through the main forum page.

This is just in case it needs attention from the Admin.

It could, of course, mean absolutely nothing. Or maybe it's just our computer. Who knows!

Dave

Hi Dave ...

tools < in browser> .. internet options...security ... script activex controls and activex .. click enable instead of prompt .. I think .. make a note of what you change so you can put it back if it doesn't remove your message ...  I say that only because I am receiving the same message ..and I recently changed these settings myself ..  cheers  ......STN

That's a common problem with these YaBB forums they just sometimes don't mail out ..for whatever reason.. I tried many times on my forum and only fixed it with a wipe and clean install. With a forum the size of this one that isn't an option.

To the OP: I have a big mistrust of anything Norton and won't have any of their stuff anywhere near a PC I use... I have reasons which are to big to go into really but my gut instinct is to say uninstall any Symantec products. Sorry I know you may have paid good money for the software.. it's just my opinion.
