Title: what do you drive to?
Post by ferretmobile on Mar 24th, 2005, 3:22pm
Just wondered what CDs you guys have in the stack system. As most of us are well over the hill and old rockers, well I am ...Its gotta be the Stones comp album
followed by the best of Led Zep and last but not least
Its Black Sabbeth.
I will probably be driving up to geordy land over Easter to see the mother in law. So to keep me motoring along,
I have the volume level up to 23!  Rock on  ;D ;D ;D

Usually whatever the wife has left in the CD player :(

For me it has to be Paul Weller's "Days of Speed"  ;D ;D ;D

Did listen to a John Miles compilation the other day - very relaxing and speed limit friendly

It used to be Motorhead, Meatloaf, Def Leppard etc. however I think this may have contributed to a couple of speeding tickets so now it`s The Corrs, Jethro Tull etc. and a lot of Radio Five Live.

No, it's Wogan on the way to work. And if I'm not on my way home (at least) by the time Johnny Walker is on, then something's gone wrong!  :o

I even listen to it through the day pretty much every day. Can easily tell the time by the changes of DJ's.  :)

I don't know how he gets away with it either Craig. They must have to check those things through carefully first.

I agree with your 'thumbs' list too, but I do like JV (as long as the discussions are on the light-hearted side)  He's a bit of a pi** taker on the quiet. Makes me laugh.  :D

The Eagles!
                  Ok,not everyones choice,
But they have sold more albums than anyone else, ever,in history,to present day!
So I guess that makes them alright. :D

I have an Eagles Greatest CD in the car now. Kerry found it in an apartment after a tenant had packed up and gone, it was very scratched but the old Brasso trick polished it up a treat. ;D

I have Rush, Judas Priest, Metallica.. mostly heavy metal. Some stuff by my old schoolmates Raven.

And in the CD packet for when Kerry drives....

Some strange dance albums??? Anastasia, Shania Twain.

Goodness, is it only me who listens to classical music!

I loathe pop music, so I either listen to Radio 3 or a CD.

I tried listening to Classic FM, but it's the pits.  Not only the commercial adverts which seem to be aimed at the brain dead, but banal presenters who talk too much, or women who talk in silly voices trying to get you listen to 'Classic Gold' or some such thing.  For Heaven's sake, they even have a Classical 'Hit Parade'!!

So I turn back to radio 3, but that sometimes has too much chat, and when jazz comes on, it goes OFF, then to the (classical) CDs.  But then I go over a bump and the CD jumps (I have the estate).

Live gets teejus, don' it?

Roger.

Jethro Tull
Animals
The Nice

used to listen to local radio but  the same adverts repeated time after time gets on my nerves ...along with people singing telephone numbers.Only takes me 15 mins to get to work, the other morning in that time not one piece of music was played all chatting , adverts and bloody silly competitions.

Me and the other half drove up to newcastle at the weekend to see the Mrs bucket of wallsend...my mother in law ::). hammered it all the way up listening to virgin.
Good sounds and I diddnt know that virgin covered the length of england. Except of course Scotland where you can only tune in to Andy stewart and stuff that sounds like the theme tune to captain pugwash...LOL ;)
The weather up in geordy land was according to the locals, warm ....hmmm. Freezing fog, rain that goes sideways and so cold that the heater in the beloved was on MAX. ;D
The trip back only took five & a half hours to harlow!
Go scorp go!!!      Ferret

Depends where I'm going but generally rock based. Currently, the stack is:
U2 - ...atom bomb...
Coldplay - parachutes and rush of blood
The Isley Brothers - the one with Summer breeze
Cinematic Orchestra - can't remember name but awesome chill out tunes.
Dala (a good Cornish/celtic band, esp live - I've just come back from Cornwall)

Tapes are my own compilations: Led Zep, Gary Moore, Pink Floyd, D.Bowie, etc, etc.

Other than that, radio 2,  Virgin or PY on Jazz FM.

Pegasus

(PS good to see another Jethro Tull enthusiast - but I can't get used to driving along with them)

The only Radio I listen to is Radio 2 during the day.
At weekends I try to catch Pete Tong on Friday eveing and on Saturday night Fergie.

As for CD's, my taste is extremely eclectic, I have a huge collection of vinyl and CD's and as I am now getting alot of my vinyl backed up to mp3, I listen to almost anything.

The wife is not too into alot of the experimental electronic music I like, or alot of the old 80's stuff like Gary Numan, so the car is a great means to blast this without her getting annoyed.

Music is an emotional experience for me anyway, so whatever mood I'm in you can guarantee I have access to the right music ;)
