Title: young Racers
Post by greenhamj on Apr 7th, 2005, 2:26pm
What is it with Boy Racers (i know we are all one at heart but there is a time and a place.

About 1.30 today i was travelling along a road which is always used as a speed trap. There using the long range cameras now. The road bends round and then carries on straight for ages (you could easily reach 80!!)

I was being a law abiding gezza and doing the speed limit incase the old boys in blue were waving there guns about when a citereon c2(that new weird one) cam shooting behind me. It attempted to over take but seeing that the road was clear of cameras i out accelerated them. Was doing about 50 when a car in the opposite direction wanted to turn in i flashed the, when suddenly this shoe-box cars comes shooting past me (60+) and straight into the parth of the other car, it just made it through.

The car was full of boys in baseball caps with the blah blah i killed a cat what do u think about that music!!

Im just ranting really as it got past me  ???

But dangerous though

Im gonna sound really old here, and Im not im 37, still a boy, but the standard of driving now is atrocious, i dont mean i was a saint.

No i was a loon, but that has stood me in good stead, 1st car was a 66 cortina gt, then a 3.0 capri, 3.0 granada, 2.8 granada, 2.8i granada, see where i am going, big powerfull rear wheel drive cars you could chuck about but were predicatable.

I used to go mental in the wet,snow, gravel whatever,  I still go a bit daft now on occasion, but you learn to hone your skills.

You also learn where, when and in what direction you can go crackers, now ita all flashing lights, big exhausts,loud music and the driving is secondary.

As some of you knoe I was done for Racing on the public highway when I was a kid, i know i was an idiot, but that was on what you would call a closed road, out of the way/

So no you are not ranting just making an honest observation.

I wonder if my dad ever had the same conversation with his mates }{

Maybe i am getting old

hhmmmmm maybe you are getting old and your memory is slipping....weren't you racing along the main road on the sea front....and got caught TWICE in the same night.......

ha ha unlucky...if only you'd had a faster car, you could have gone back in time and evaded the plod....

see, I used to take it easy, no racing, how vulgar..I just polished my 2.8 Capri as it was parked at the roadside.

Hmmm, I just wonder who was the most dangerous here LOL
With the maturity of your years you should have known what the reaction of the young and less mature drivers would have been especially if subject to the peer pressure of his mates being in the car.

Why did you out-accelerate them?

I guess we are all still 'young at heart' ;)

Regardless of age or maturity we each make choices and must take responsibility for the outcome. We can not dismiss an action some-body takes just because of there age.

"see, I used to take it easy, no racing, how vulgar..I just polished my 2.8 Capri as it was parked at the roadside. "

Was it not parked up due to axle failure, for the 12th time, or maybe the engine had blown, again, or the box had packed up, again, or a driveshaft had snapped, again: or the head gasket had gone, AGIAN;

Better still it could have been your Cortina, the one tha always halfed my MPG due to it being on a TOW ROPE behind my car. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The only reason I posted was that I had coincidently just read this on our local new site - just makes you think how things can get out of hand so quickly.

Vegas Man Is Dead After Police Say Road Rage Got Out Of Hand
April 7, 2005, 05:33 PM

Road rage may have sparked a deadly confrontation. Late last night, a 37-year-old man lay dead on the pavement, and police say a local teenager could face a murder charge as a result of what happened. Police say the incident covered a lot of ground, but ended near the intersection of Washington and Nellis. News 3's Steve Crupi reports no charges have been filed yet, but that's because this is a complicated case that began with a pair of hot-tempered drivers who had some type of disagreement, and then chased each other all over town.

Things ended with one driver getting out of his vehicle and moments later, he was dead. The dead man is identified as 37-year-old Robert Swafford. Police say he was behind the wheel of a pickup truck and became involved in a roadway confrontation with a carload of teenagers. "The important thing to remember is at no time did either of these parties use the common sense to say, 'Why don't I just go home?'"

Police say as far as they can tell, the drivers were complete strangers when the confrontation began. Police say when the vehicles skidded to a stop at Betty and Big Stone Way, the driver of the pickup got out and walked toward the carload of teenagers. It was at that point that the 17-year-old boy behind the wheel of that car hit and killed the other driver. "This is a great example of too much testosterone and not enough common sense."

Police say the juveniles left the scene immediately, but later came back a short time later with their parents. Police say it's always difficult to prove intent when the weapon is a car instead of something like a gun or a knife. So far, that 17-year-old driver has not been arrested.

Police say a first-degree murder charge in this case is unlikely. It will probably be some type of manslaughter charge, but the final decision will be up to the DA.
