Title: Plonker Plod
Post by shaunskiman on Dec 15th, 2005, 7:23pm
Traveling into Plymouth today along a daul carriageway marked at 40 mph, I came up behind a Police car in the nearside lane he was doing 35mph so I moved out to the other lane and over took them, they 1 young man and 1 young lady both in their early 20's moved out behind me and followed me until they pulled me over !! woman plod appears at my window turn your engine off and get out of the car, Why have I been stopped I ask, Get out of the car and into the back of the police car and you will be told ! I climb in to the back of their bog standard focus to be told that they have recorded my speed on their cailabrated speedo as a steady 50 mph  ??? NO WAY I say I was doing 41 dead, and I ask where is the calibrated speedo, he young plod points to the ford focus standard speedo, I laugh  :D Thats not a calibrated speedo I say, they tell me to carm down and say my speedo must be way out, I say ask the wife sitting in my car I had gave her a running commantery up until stopped. They Plod Then changed tact and said this time we will just reqiure me to pruduce my docs at the local cop shop, This I did right after getting home from shopping No problems. Now am I right in thinging that their bog standard focus speedo is not a we can nick you speedo like the digi things you see in the traffic cars on telly and were they just trying unseccessfully to scare me, or is my cossy speedo that far out and also why did'nt we both set off the speed camara we passed. Is'nt it good to know we can sleep safe in our beds at night with muppets like them out on the streets in their uniforms wasting peoples time because I dared to overtake. Cheers for letting me rant on
I feel better now ::)

And of cause!

      We have'nt got the resources!

      Well,The two young resources that pulled you at that time seemed to have nothing better to do!

      Maybe they could be reasigned to stopping real crime? just an idea! ;)

When I was a young 20 odd year old, I drove an 18 month old 4x4 Granada Scorpio (C955FVM) it was raven black metallic and it attracted coppers like flies round.......

They were always stopping me with cheery comments like "is this your car sonny or have you nicked it?"  and "where did you nick the phone from son" (it had a car phone in that actually worked and cost me an unbelieveable amount of cash to make a call!

Anyway, I was stopped on avarage about 4 times a week (no lie) and was always asked to produce my documents. So what I used to do was go and sit outside the local police station in Warrington either at about 2:00 to 2:30 on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Then when the local plod dragged in a few drunken revellers I used to walk in and calmly put my documents on the counter and ask them to check them. Meanwhile, there were countless drunken yobs kicking off in the reception area (but being from the local rough council estate, I knew most of them!!) I was always asked "can you come back tomorrow, it is a bit inconvenient" or words to that effect, to which the reply "it was a bit inconvenient to be stopped 4 times last week" usually worked.

The harrasment stopped eventually, after reporting countless coppers for mistreatment and continually arriving in the early hours to produce documents!!

Treat them with the contempt they deserve and revel in the fact that they may have to start doing some real policing now that the government is stopping them installing more revenue cameras soon. They may actually have to go out and catch people committing crimes.....can you believe that??

WHEN....the police had proper traffic cops in proper traffic cars the speedos had to be calibrated (forget the frequency of this) and a sticker was placed in the car giving details of when checked/errors etc.

The old Range rover's standard speedo was so inaccurate there had to be a secondary one fitted on the dash!

The normal "panda" patrol car is not calibrated, but the driver can still report you for speeding based on this as long as they then carry out a " measured mile" calibration (you can see the white square markings laid out on some roads).....so yes, the copper was quite within his duties to stop you and could have done you based on the focus speedo as long as it was then checked for accuracy.....HTH

PS......don't take it that my reply above condoned their actions!!!!

In my opinion coppers should be at least 25 y.o and had at least 5 years proper work experience before they can join.....makes me laugh when i see these young kids in uniform....
