Goes like steaming stuff off a red hot shovel  :)

When the foot goes down the head goes back  :D

Purrs at 2000 revs, growls at 2500 and roars at 4000.  ;D

Need I say more?

I can back up what Paul has said about the Cosworth. He's dead right.

But.... please, please, please don't rush into it. You must find a good one.

When these engines are good, they're fantastic. But when they have a problem or two (which is not too unusual) then they're your worst nightmare come true.

Do your homework and be prepared to look at a good few before you buy. Then enojy it!  ;D

My insurance isnt too bad but im 35, your age and location might work against you though.

Norwich Union seem to do well on the 24v quotes.

try http://www.confused.com

Off the mark and at low speeds they arent the quickest thing around but once you get them moving they can tag along with the best of them ;)

I average around 25mpg and i do a lot of long runs where i get 30-33mpg but if you're running around town be prepared for around 20mpg

Enable 'Sports' Mode at ALL times and turn off traction control unless you're driving in icy conditions as it really does take a lot of the control and fun away from the car.

For such a large car it really can 'hustle' down a fast windy road - Many. many hot hatch owners have tried (and failed spectacularly) to lose my 'tank' of a car thinking it wont be able to go round bends at speed or power out of bends with such gusto - How little they know - lol

;D

I used www.confused.com to find quotes for my Cossie and I selected the one from Norwich Union Direct.  Just make sure though that whoever you select when using Confused.com has all the correct details on the car.  There are a few horror stories around of people putting in the reg number on Confused which brings up the correct DVLA records for the car but when the info goes to the Insurance company it's not always a direct match.

When you call the Insurance company to correct the info they will then want to increase the policy by a good amount  :-/

Hi Hillbilly,
£2k - gawd.  :o
I've just paid £366 fully comp with NCD and legal protection (10 yrs NCB) with esure. Car's kept in garage in Beckenham (greater London). My son (22) is dying to drive it but I told him a condition was that no one under 30 is allowed to even sit in the driver's seat.   ;)  The only person I've allowed is my brother - once - just to let him have a taster.

If you're waiting it'll give you a chance to get to know the beast so that when you see one you'll know what to look for. As Paul B said, you need to find a good'un.

Good luck,

Paul

You should move to Scotland.  I am 29 and with full NC + Protection Fully Comp is £325 with AXA through Motorquote Direct. Vol Excess £200 tho.  Car garaged too.

Cossie seems to be fast enough.

You will never ever beat a nice big Motorbike tho. 0-60 in about 1sec in 1st gear!!  Roll on summer!!!  Too much snow here at the mo tho.

Can only agree with all of the above  ;)
That little button with the S on it is a bit of fun when you get the spotty hot hatch driver next to you at the lights   ;D
On with the sport mode and off with the traction control and push your right foot deep into the shag pile just as the lights change and watch spotty disapeer into a spec in the mirror, cant fail to satisfy.
as Paul B said do your home work there is excellent info on the site to be had print it off and get to know it inside out
before you go to buy.
Remember if the seller is genuine he or she wont mind you checking it over properly and always ask if they would mind you bringing an AA man with you if they say I do mind then there is problems
Best of look and If you do find a good un you will love it. I know I do.
Dont worry about the wife she will love the comfort and the space etc just dont tell her its a cossie ;) ;) ;)

but how much better than a 2.9 12v is it really, i'm not worried about  the extra fuel mine averages about 15 to the gallon around town which is all it is used for. go on be truthfull is it really faster. ::) ::)

Just to confirm the power:

had a hot hatch follow me along most of M2 today almost up my tailpipe. Turned onto A249. Going up a long uphill climb already in "S" and then put my foot down he became a distant spec in my rear view. Never saw him again  ;D

Let's put it this way:  Cosworth didn't make a name for themselves (or attract huge insurance premiums) by making things only slightly faster than Ford's standard 2.9i V6 which has been around since the late eighties and was used in the Sierra and Granada (itself a revised version of the earlier 2.8 used in the dark ages)  ;)

The 24V is based on the 2.9 12V, which was based on the 2.8 & so on.
Infact the cologne series of engines all started life as a 1.7L V4 ;)

Cosworth did 2 amazing engines for the Escort RS200

a 1.8 litre 450 BHP engine
and it's bigger brother a 2.1 litre 650 BHP. Now thoes where serious engine.....life span was under 10 hours / one rally race  ;D

This one isn't bad either
http://paultan.org/archives/2005/07/16/2006-cosworth-24-v8-f1-engine/

2.4 litre V8, haven't seen the power figures, probably classified, but I bet it packs a punch  ;D
