Title: Unfriendly Forums
Post by ksh64 on Jan 4th, 2006, 7:13pm
Although i have not dabbled in forums much before joining this brilliant site,i would like to have a little gripe about another forum. My 13 year old son is car mad.He just loves our Ultima.(i think his idea of heaven is to stand in a carpark full of Scorpios).Anyway,he joined a general car site and asked for opinions on the scorpio and got the usual narrow minded views. He asked what cars other users liked etc.And the replies he received? He was slated for leaving caps lock on when posting a thread and for liking scorpios. All i can say is ,thankyou for making this site helpful and friendly and for fellow scorpio owners who seem to go out of their way  to help one another.Ahh! feel better for that little moan.Maybe i should go on offending site and tell them to come to a decent forum and to lay off of my boy.

Leaving caps lock on can be a bit irritating ;-)
But yeah, you do have a point indeed. This forum is one of the better ones I frequently visit, if not THE best.

:)
I used to have a Landrover Discovery, although the car was great, especially in the dirty stuff and the forum for that marque was good too except for a few bad eggs.
There was a certain "click" amongst those few that spoilt it for the rest. >:(
If you were a newbie they looked down on you and treated you with utter contempt.
Like going in to a strange pub and the music stops and every body turns round and looks at you as if to say " what are you doing here" :o
They couldn`t be bothered to be courtious to you if you had a valid question because they had been there done that and didn`t want to pass on their experiance.
Not like on this site i may add, where everybody is polite, courtious and very helpfull. ;D
Trying our best to keep our marque on the road.
Thankyou to you all and keep it up. :-*

I would think the people giving your son grief are  the boy racers of this world who have probably had that silly, spotty  smirk wiped of their faces by a Scorpio 24v.

Reminds me of the last "run-out". There are a lot of idiots in my country, all they know is to flash you from behind to make them more room the get you passd. The thing that bugs me the most is that they have enough room, and eaven so the also can pass you by (don't know to spell in english....when you get on the oposing line when nobody comes from the other sense). Last time i was with my parents and car full of stuff, i was going for a vacation in the country. A stupid guy with a renault laguna turbo deluxe edition started to flash me. The road was only with one way for each sense, and from front there was nothing so he could pass me normaly, and i was doing a lot of speed (way over the speed limit), after a bend in the road the guy finnaly tried to take me over, but now i was in a high speed zone (out o villages) so in the 5-th gear i had put the pedal to the metal.........i was doing about 75 miles per hour. the speed started to rise 87 mph, 100 mph, 110 mph........well the crappy reanult "TURBO" couldn't keep up with may "SLOW" big whale of a car......so he strugled to pass me , but he couldn't.......he got behind me and continued his SLOW run. After 5 minutes he was just a small silver spot on my mirrors. The "SLOW" scorp made him cry, and i only got a 2.3  ;D. If i had a 2.9 24 cossie........well that is another story.

I outran a merc 500SL last summer, with my 2.0 16V Saloon.
He was alone in his, I had two passengers and way too much load :-P

Ofcourse, the 500SL is WAY faster than my 2.0, but some people don't know how to push their car (and yes, he was trying).

This was on a 4 lane road, practicly no turns, with little traffic. Concrete "fences" separating oncoming traffic.

Well,  speed  don't interest me ,   I bought the Scorp for  its  looks  (I'm   weird , I know )     luxury, size  and  its  lovely gizmos ;D

I've always liked the big luxury fords. Had a 2.4 V6 granny/scorpio before I got my '95 Scorp.

Miss the engine in the granny (except that it couldn't run on unleaded, that was a pain), but I the '95 is better overall (ofcourse).

How rude.  :o
And how wrong too.
As the other guys have already mentioned, these cars are better and quicker than most people realise.

Never experienced the Laguna, but I was surprised at how quick the Nut-Job Clio was. Mind you, he still didn't get me.
And... the 24v will quite nicely 'have' an Escort RS Turbo (I enjoyed that one!)

That must've looked a good little tussle  ;D

He did seem a bit surprised..  ;)
(but as I said, he couldn't have known his car very well. If you know where the torque sets in and when to shift gears and so on, most cars can be driven quite fast.
The 2.0 16V seems to have the most grunt around 3800rpms and keeping it between that and 4500-5000rpms usually keeps it happy, acceleration-wise.

Btw, he gave up trying to keep up with me after 5 miles or so ;)

Had been on vacation to Sweden, and was on my way home. Nothing but (almost) clear straight roads for miles. Difficult not to be a bit heavy on the right foot under those conditions :-P

The 2.3 seems "normal" till 3.000 rpm but after that is like having another engine, it screeams, it throws you in the seat, just like having turbo kick-down  ;D

Highest rev i did with it was 6700 rpm on the gauge, after that the ecu shut my "excess fuel" off ....till iddle speed :o

no mate , not tried the cossie yet, when yours is done, you must take me out for a spin, but as octavian_p says, the 2.3 does have a little more than you would think in it, and paul, you witnessed 1st hand, a 3 car 125 mph return from a recent kent meet , well, at one point it was anyway, must have been when we got to brands!!!!!!!!(the circiut of course)

Russ

p.s i look forward to my 1st experience in a cossie powered scorp.

I have to admit, the 2.3 does have more than people give it credit for. Its a worthy substitute for the Cosworth, if not a better choice   :-/

And I remember that run back from Essex very well. The cars looked fantastic and were all running really great.  8)
At Brands Hatch, as I went past you and Paul, we were doing 125mph. And that was on that uphill section too. A nice run home that one  :)

sorry to say that cossies are almost non-existant here.

would kill to try one though ;-)

found some old price list, and the '97 cossie ultima was ~700 000NOK (£61 000) retail brand new.

bit too pricey for most people.

the few i've seen for sale has been german imports.

I did i did ...... i had been show the mighty of the Cossie. It's amazing and that gearbox when you kick it down and it makes your ribcage to go agains the chair, and the head feel so heavy and can't lean your neck fowards.....and the growl of the engine...and the tacho goes 4000 rpm, 5000 rpm .....6000 rpm  :o, of course sport mode activated  ;D and TC off. After that run i couldn't sleep two nights just thinking of that scorp.  ;D

To be bumping up an old thread, I have a 2.0 16V which is surprisingly quick, esp for a big bulky car like the scorp. Since I got the car i absolutely love it  And this coming from a true Renault man haveing owned 12 of them since i had my license, actually the Scorpio is my first non-renault since 1986.

I would love to try my other car against a cosworth though. i have a '86 Renault 5 GTTurbo which did 162 BHP on the front wheels on a dyno (and weighs 829 kilo ;D) I did a measured 0-60 run in 6.2 sec on a G-tech meter.

Yep one of them tanned me away from a set of lights.
However, In defence of the cossie I had four adults and thier luggage in the car and he was on his own.
I let him get a reasonable lead on me then on the next bit of dual carriage way I put it into sport and passed him at well over 100mph.
I am sure I saw his mouth fall open in the rear view mirror.
