Title: The Bull (Taurus) Post by Butterfingers on Feb 16th, 2006, 1:02pm Just thought you might want to see what our cousins are upto across the pond with their Ford Taurses. www.taurusclub.com I'm assuming of course their Taurus is the equivalent of our Scorpio (in size). Although I think it does look a bit like the older shape Mondeo. And thier new Ford Five Hundred looks a bit like our newer Mondeo. it's all very confusing. |

Title: Re: The Bull (Taurus) Post by mr._floppy on Feb 17th, 2006, 5:21pm I drove a hired 2.2 lt. Taurus last summer in the US, dreadfully plasticky interior and cheap fabric seats and not half the gizmos that my 10 year old Scorp has. ( must have been the Taurus base model ) Strange thing is, it looked a lot shorter than the Scorp but was actually 16ft. 9ins. long. The best looking car on the US roads is still the Ford Crown Victoria and its Mercury and Lincoln badge variants. |

The Taurus is known as the 'Head Blower' out here. Somehow Ford cannot make Cylinder heads that last on the Taurus. Some people may have 250,000 without any problem but a lot have head problems as early as 30,000 :o Quote:
I'm right with you on that! The Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town car and the Mercury Grand Marquis are built on a platform known as the panther platform. These cars are the last true American full sized, body-on-frame, rear wheel drive V8 sedans. Very comfortable cars. I have two and would find it difficult to let them go. It was hard enough having to leave the Scorpio in England :'( If anyone knows of a way I can legally import and drive my Scorpio in the US please let me know. The department of transport stipulate the vehicle must be 25 years old or older. Some people have managed to get round this but I don’t know how ??? Danny_R |

Title: Re: The Bull (Taurus) Post by mr._floppy on Feb 17th, 2006, 7:29pm Reasonably priced too, $27 000 ( £15 600) gets you the 2006 Base model Victoria, I'd love to import one. :-[ |

There are a few floating around the UK. People mainly import the police Crown Vics http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7/fordscorpio_uk/5afe1290.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7/fordscorpio_uk/5b190ec0.jpg There's one for sale on ebay at the minute, looks like it's ready and legal for UK roads too. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Crown-Victoria-2002-02-4-6-L-V8_W0QQitemZ4613163223QQcategoryZ18301QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Danny_R |

Title: Re: The Bull (Taurus) Post by mr._floppy on Feb 17th, 2006, 10:07pm Oh boy, thanks for that E-Bay link , Seriously, I'm sorely tempted, £4500 for a 4 year old Vic, 1 owner, 55k , must be summat up with it, looks bloody good though! Pity it's untaxed and MOT'd ??? |

Title: Re: The Bull (Taurus) Post by Danny_R on Feb 18th, 2006, 12:49pm As far as these cars go they are pretty bullet proof. I've seen Crown Vic taxi cabs with 450,000 and still running strong!!! The price has gone up a little bit but when you consider it's already in the UK, and the duty will have already been paid for and it will of had to have the dreaded SVA test to make it suitable for UK roads!!! it's a pretty good deal. The newer Vic’s like that one get about 19 around town and 24 on the highway. I was going to buy one off ebay before I decided to come over this side of the pond. It's a LOT of car for the money!!! :D Danny_R |

Title: Re: The Bull (Taurus) Post by Butterfingers on Feb 18th, 2006, 6:35pm That's peanuts, it went for £6,100 in the end. They do seem to go on forever as taxis. I think they use them as taxis in Toronto as well. Mind you they also use the Taurus as taxis as well in Toronto. Mind you they have stopped selling the Crown Vic, Taurus, Mercury Grand Marquis and Sable in the Middle East now. The last year of import was 2002 and have started selling the Mondeo instead. Certainly in Dubai the Camry is a good seller. I don't think they do the Camry any more over here! If we ever do move over to Canada then I'll try and get the Crown Vic as compensation for the Scorp. |

Unfortunately, Ford only sell the Crown Vic as fleet in Canada i.e. taxi and police not general public which seems a little strange as it's the ST Thomas plant in Canada which makes the Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. You can however pick up used police interceptors at auction. I hadn't heard Ford had stopped selling the Crown Vic in the middle east. I know that it's currently the best selling car in Saudi Arabia. They love the big V8's. Danny_R |

Title: Re: The Bull (Taurus) Post by mr._floppy on Feb 18th, 2006, 9:48pm Having a look at the USA Taurus club site I notice that it's common to lower the front end by a couple of inches by fitting shorter springs ( I know, I don't know why either? !, Tsk, Yanks ! ) and so, subsequently, they have problems with tyre wear due to increased negative camber. The only solution seemingly is to move the position of the front Mc Pherson struts by altering and enlarging the fixing bolt holes in the engine bay suspension towers thus reducing the camber angle. A lot of work methinks for little reward ! The gist of this story is that that's the problem I have on my Scorpio, the camber angle on the nearside is about 5% neg and should be 1% neg. Any thoughts on how to alter it ? |
