Title: building a still for consumable alcohol Post by cossie_al on Mar 3rd, 2006, 10:36pm Hi All, Well if nothing else this is certainly off topic. I know that among the members of this site we have a lot of knowledgeble guys and gals, but do any of you have any experience in building small stills for home use? :P brewing is probably my third love, my wife and scorp being my first and second but dont ask in which order cos I would probably have to tell a lie to maintain a happy relationship }{ I have done the google and have a number of designs that I can try but being new to all things still related I thought I would just ask on the off chance. Oh and I am aware of the dangers of alcohol poisoning 8) if it gets that strong perhaps the scorp may like a drop ;D ;D |

Title: Re: building a still for consumable alcohol Post by Geoff_W on Mar 4th, 2006, 10:17pm Depends if it is animal or vegetable based Have a look at this: http://www.biodiesel.co.uk/ this: http://www.veggiepower.org.uk/main.htm and this: http://www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk/index.htm That last lists cars that can run on biodiesel and they do not appear to have any Ford ones listed. |

Title: Re: building a still for consumable alcohol Post by invernessguy on Mar 10th, 2006, 6:00am my best mate just happens to own a distillery up here.. i know what he is gonna say... its really too complicated to make your own spirits. you need lots of heat, and that combined with evaporated alcohol.... i can see a big bang over the horizon!!! :o but anyway, i can get a barrell or two, but its a hell of as lot of alcohol to make for personal use? The legal implications are pretty severe if your caught.... As for taking the red dye out of diesel, now thats easy! SLOWLY drip it through a deep fryer charcoal filter, may take a couple to get it clean, i also heard, (i havent seen this one working) that stale bread works too.... donnie |

Title: Re: building a still for consumable alcohol Post by Big_Green_Tank on Mar 10th, 2006, 11:44am MMMMM! I am wondering about this thread. Information is great, but like the Goverments, those in power may simply not like us to impart all this "Usefull knowledge. PM ing or even direct mail chat might be safer and youwill still be a member of the Forum.!!! What the eye doesn't see ................! donnie I bear the charcoal filter in mind when I next by a diesel car. Fat chance Smelly Oil burning beasts!!!! Bob |

Title: Re: building a still for consumable alcohol Post by Pegasus on Mar 18th, 2006, 10:13pm Distilling isn't hard, and to save time you could use a fractionating column (similar to that by oil companies for different viscosities of fuel, oils, waxes, etc). Its equivalent to doing 3 normal distilling runs in 1 go - get high power booze in 1 run. :o PROBLEM IS - ITS ILLEGAL. {} However, if you had a molecular sieve (it retains water and lets alcohol through)- then that's not illegal - trouble is you cant get'em in you local wine makers shop ;) I'll stick to my Glenfiddich and Glenmorangie |
