Title: Torn between two lovers Post by leftofcentre on Mar 18th, 2006, 11:14pm Been perusing Ebay like one does. Am torn between a Scorp 2.3 manual or a Rover 800 2.0 Turbo Coupe for our 2nd car. Obviously we all know the score with the former, but the later is a v nice example (197Bhp for a 2.0!!) Actually seen a few of these around. Some not so good + a few beauties. Any comments? Am sure the Rover has its probs (Have had an 800 before) like Turbo leaks, Sticking valves on some, HG leaks etc... ... but how does this compare to 2.3? (bigger engine, less power, cracked manifolds on some, wheel bearing probs, fuel tank probs etc. Your neutral feedback required if possible ;D The Rover (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4623389081&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1) The 2.3 Scorp (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-FORD-SCORPIO-GHIA-X-16V-2-3-MANUAL-ESTATE_W0QQitemZ4623489816QQcategoryZ9844QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) A Very Nice Omega (with Bose Stereo :o ) (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4622167909&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1) |

Title: Re: Torn between two lovers Post by invernessguy on Mar 19th, 2006, 4:42am andy, im not a fan of estates, but like paul says, if you do have some probs with the scorpio, its all old ground for you.... i use mine hard as a taxi, and doesnt give me much drama, and when it does, a little time on here will have it sorted!! the rover, in my opinion, is definately last place, as i too have owned one before, a 827 sterling saloon, and i wouldnt have another. The omegai s a very pretty looking car, but after some of the stories from fellow tai drivers who have used them hard, i wouldnt recommend it. At the end of the day andy, its your decision, and whatever you are happier with. but go for a scorpio, you know it makes sense!! donnie |

Title: Re: Torn between two lovers Post by leftofcentre on Mar 19th, 2006, 9:07am Hope you had a good day today folks. Som interesting points. Wonder why the general consensus is that the Rovers are crap? Why wouldnt you have another Donnie? And what stories about the Omega? Was thinking that they were indestructable as the cops loved em :-/ |

Title: Re: Torn between two lovers Post by Baz on Mar 19th, 2006, 9:39am I had two Rover 75's on consecutive "W" plates. The Blue One was an absolute nightmare with things going wrong before it was delivered to me and this continued up to the day I got rid. The Dark red one only had 36000 after 3 years and even that had had a new clutch assembly (and spent 3 months off the road waiting for parts!) Thats why it makes me laugh when some people come on here complaining about niggling faults. We spent the best part of 50,000 on the two Rovers and the blue one spent 27 days out of the first 3 months in the dealers and every other week thereafter for 3 years! Now that was a car with problems! The only true advantage of the Rover is that you don't have dealers anymore so that has to be a good thing in anyones book right? Get the Scorpio, you know you want to! |

Title: Re: Torn between two lovers Post by Highlander on Mar 19th, 2006, 10:23am I drove Rover 827 Si's before the Scorpio, 175 Bhp and faster than the 24v although 18-22 mpg isnt funny :) Bar a cylinder head gasket going on one which meant it being scrapped I didnt have any real probs with them, in fact still got one out back in the field which the locals use for a field bus (when they can afford the petrol) :) |

Title: Re: Torn between two lovers Post by mr._floppy on Mar 19th, 2006, 4:56pm We'll gloss over the fact that all Estates are driven by middle aged tweedy women who smell of horses, dogs and Lavender Water, :-* they also are the work of the devil and an abomination. ( Even Scorpio Estates ). So it's the Omega then. |
