Title: Fuel Cat in a 2.3
Post by jonnycab on Mar 24th, 2006, 3:10am
I,ve just bought a Fuel Cat & am intending to put in my 2.3 Ultima. Has anyone else ever fitted one & if so what were the results?
I also own a 1977 Mk1 Granada 3.0L Ghia & have had a similar type fuel catalyst (System 4) in it for a couple of years. When 4 star dissappeared I was using LRP which was no-where near as good as the real thing. But with the catalyst it ran a lot smoother, I could use unleaded without retuning & I was getting about 3-4 mpg better.
The Fuel Cat is supposed to give better mpg, less emmissions, more power, & prevent carbon build up. Kind of like the new super-unleaded I suppose.
Apparently they used to use fuel catalysts in WW2 spitfires at night because they left no smoke trails, hence Nazi anti-aircraft guns couldn't pin-point them.

most of these thing give psychological benefits, if they were that good the manufacturers would have fitted them.

I am going to fit the Fuel Cat tommorrow (Sunday). The car is currently used as a licenced Taxi and I work off a rank. It averages 23 mpg (urban mileage).
I'll reply in this post in a couple of weeks to let you know if there has been any improvement in mpg & if there have been any other side effects.

The 'Fuel Cat' has now been taken out. There was a very slight increase in power (like using 97 octane), but it was doing less mpg.
I have spoken to Fuel Cat & they have offered to refund me fully.
I have not taken this opportunity of a refund & am going to keep the product & put it in my '76 MK1 Granada and see if is as good as the 'System-4' catalyst that is already installed.
P.S.  It worked in respect of leaving no smoke trails....well the Nazi's didn't spot me , did they!!
