Yes you read it wright
my daughter(3.5yrs) is the proud owner of two young guinea pigs
I reckon come july they should be nice and plump and a nice if not a small accompaniment to the steaks etc on the barbie a bit of jerk seasoning perhaps and of course a can of stella or two.
Any recipes would be greatly appreciated ;D ;D ;D

Nah,   Guinea  Pigs  are rather too  Gamey for my taste.

Jugged  Hamster  with a twist of Lemming  always gets my juices flowing  ( sorry about  that ,    I'll  get a   cloth ).

From BBC:

" Guinea pig

They may be sweet as pets but they also happen to be savoury in some parts of the world, namely South America where they were first domesticated by the Inca in modern-day Peru. Fifteen centuries later these family pets/ready meals remain an Andean delicacy, which when fried or roasted form the traditional dish known as cuy. Peruvians get through something like 22 million of the fluffy rodents annually, which are said to taste of rabbit and have less fat and more protein than chicken, pork or red meat. Spanish colonial paintings of the Last Supper in the old Inca capital of Cusco even show Christ and his apostles feasting on some roasted cuy. So, if you're not too attached to them as pets then get the oven on. They may well taste heavenly. "

Couple if recipes I found on the net (untested)

Many more can probably be found on google.. Searching for 'cuy'

As yet I am not attached to them ;)
but young Kathryn is getting that way thingslike " havn't said goodnight to the piggies yet"and when in sainsburys "daddy will bill and corky like these to eat"as she grabs carrots from the organic stand do tend to be a give away
However, I am partial to a barby and a bit of jamacan spice rub ;D

I think a decent bit of fillet steak from a good butcher would be cheaper.
I very nearly dropped on the spot when the cashier at the pet shop told me how much these little critters cost :o

£35.00 With a fiver off for buying two.
Not to mention all the gear that goes with them :o
But my daughter is chuffed to bits and the look on her face when I said pick two to take home was worth any amount of cash :)

I once had a hamster that lost all it's fur after 18 months (looked a little bit like a very small pig). It looked as though it was BBQ ready but seemed quite happy being bald & lived for nearly three years.
