Title: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by Baw_Flinger on Jul 4th, 2006, 8:48am Have you had to get rid of your pride and joy? Having panic attacks, nausea or other withdrawal symptoms? Then do not fret! The ex-scorpio help group has been formed to aid your transition back to the world of mundane, backbreaking driving. My name is Baw and I owned a Scorpio. After she went, I had feelings of inadequacy, emptiness and a deep seated unhappiness that led to depression. I realised that there must be many more people like me that must struggle to carry on after the passing of a loved one and were not getting any support. Here we can discuss anything about our loss that we want and attempt to heal the wounds. We welcome anyone with long ranging experience to discuss how they coped and pass on any tips that may ease the pain of others. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Group hug!! ;) |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by Daven on Jul 4th, 2006, 9:27am Lee, I understand what you are going through having owned a 2nd scorpio for only 3 weeks before sending it to the scrap yard in the sky, my attachment to it became unbearable for my wife to cope with. My consolation was the parts I kept and cherish along with my first love (and my wife). All I can say is keep something to remind you of it - especially during these long hot night when you may crave for those soft cool curves, the comfort of a well warn seat and the forgiving temperament of a godess. You are not alone :) ;D ;D |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by Baw_Flinger on Jul 4th, 2006, 9:38am Well I do have a set of back seats, perhaps I could turn it into a sofa :) I dont think a manky old drivebelt tensioner or a seat motor would have the same sentimental value ;D |

Buy another Scorpio, you know you want to, are you MEN or MICE ? Come back to the fold, all is forgiven. ::) |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by jonnycab on Jul 4th, 2006, 10:28am Although being a Scorpio owner at the moment, I did have an eighteen month sabbatical between my old one & this one (I was Mondeo man for this period) ::) I sold my old 2.0 Ghia at Chelmsford car auctions & it was a difficult thing to walk away & leave her in the car park surrounded by various inferior cars. While waiting for a taxi to pick me I couldn't stop looking through the bars at her. she looked so unhappy, like a lost puppy. I felt a lump in my throat & a tear in my eye. When the taxi finally arrived I took one last look at her & I'm sure she flashed her headlights at me one last time :'( :'( I'm still reminded of of her every now & then....especially when I receive the odd photo from the Metropolitan police after she's been caught speeding at various camera sights in North London. Obviously the new owner has not registered it & I'm the last known owner (they do try it on, the Met). At least I know she's still out there somewhere gracing the highways & not being slowly crushed by two Fiestas in a scrap yard :) I hope this little story isn't too sad for the Ex-Scorpio owners group. ;D |

But hey, there was nothing like picking your in-laws at the airport in the Scorp for the first time and having them giving me the 'Oh, nice car, you must be doing OK then!?' ;D |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by Baw_Flinger on Jul 11th, 2006, 8:23am Welcome to our humble band Cossie_al, or will that just be Al now :(. I wonder if Ford produce a Scorpio donor card, like the one we carry if we get hit by a bus and say it is OK for some goober to have our kideys or something ;D Well, it was big test time this weekend for my toyota: A long trip with the misus. Did a couple of hundred miles with her moaning every few minutes about how she could not get comfortable, 'this is not a bloody Scorp is it?!'. For me, the old knee and back pain that seemed like such a distant memory, has came back in its full horror...... Snif :'( |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by mr._floppy on Jul 11th, 2006, 12:15pm Why deprive yourself of the Scorpio at all ? When it finally packs up or burns a hole in your pocket for the last time just ( if you have the room ) give it pride of place in your garden, wash it every Sunday, sit in it and play your Supertramp CD's, put a TV and a beer cooler in it and escape from the kids and the trubbel and strife for a few hours. ;D |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by cossie_al on Jul 11th, 2006, 12:56pm Baw, I know exactly what you mean about the back troubles Ive been looking for cars in my wifes pug 206 and as your good lady says no its not a bloody scorp!! Mr floppy, Having the scorp without being able to drive would be like cutting my legs off. It is still on the drive but I have already got an empty feeling knowing it has to go. :'( |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by sector-9 on Jul 11th, 2006, 11:04pm If you've got the room to keep it then mothball it - doesn't cost any money to sit on the driveway if you SORN it. At least then you can repair the fail items at your leisure and as funds allow (apart from corrosion which will be slow, and tyres if not rotated, it's not likely to get much worse). Even if you do later decide to get rid, it's still not worth any less than it is now; and possibly more in terms of spares! Darren |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by Baw_Flinger on Jul 12th, 2006, 8:13am If I had the space, I would have done that because at the end off they day Im going to have to get another at some point (or an XG30 :P) ;D I only have one parking space at the mo (always hounding my landlord for a spare) and the rest of my area is tighter than a knats chuff. |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by cossie_al on Jul 13th, 2006, 8:20pm Just wondering if anyone knows of a pill that gets the scorp out of your head? Been all over looking at cars the last couple of days and had a few test drives but I find myself saying:- This seat isnt comfy The steerings a bit heavy It feels sluggish to me Isnt it noisey What do you meen the rear view mirror doesnt dim on its own Just push that mirror down so I can see the kurb will you What do you mean pull the lever to adjust the seat Why wont the boot open from fifty yards away And so on I would sell my soul if I could buy a new scorp :'( :'( :'( |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by jonnycab on Jul 14th, 2006, 2:46am Why don't you just get rid of it, have a break (to get over it) & then look for another one (there's a few nice ones for sale if you hunt). As you know, I sold my trusty 2.0 Ghia at auction...but eighteen months later i've got another one that's... 'bigger, stronger & faster'...& I really don't miss the old one anymore.....honest...... :'( |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by km449 on Jul 14th, 2006, 4:53pm But what else does one get in the meantime???!! And, panic, what if one isn't available in 18 months???? I am tempted by the XG30, but................. Can feel a headache coming on!! |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by Geoff_W on Jul 14th, 2006, 11:52pm Well in my case over a six week period I had a Honda Civic and a Toyota Prius, got to say that at some future point I would get one because they are so practical, but I am really delighted to be back in a Scorp ;D 8) |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by cossie_al on Jul 15th, 2006, 10:55pm Well I may be doing a deal with Matt from here on the forum. The wife has always had a bee in her bonnet about me running a big car and the running costs of the scorp are,,,,,,well I dont need to tell you guys. But get this, today she said why dont you just keep it untill you can do the work (health permitting) or perhaps one of your ex collegues(mechanics) may get time to help out eventually. I was on the floor with shock :o :o :o perhaps me being generally peed off moping around the house with my bottom lip tripping me up cos it had to go made her change her mind. either way it looks as though I will still have a scorp one way or another Also there are a few in auto trader that may be worth a look if mine does have to go ;) ;) ;) |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by Penguin on Jul 25th, 2006, 11:04pm I had to make a decision recently as to whcih car I got rid of. My wife had recently changed jobs to one that did not require are car to get to and we decided that we would therefore be much better off if we only ran one car. The candidates for expulsion were my Scorpio and her Honda Accord. The Accord does nearly 40mpg and in all the time we'd had it it had never even blown so much as a spark plug. The Scorpio does 20mpg on a good day and (whilst the new gearbox and the radiator were on warranty) it has required two fixes to the air-con and a new cat. We had to make the decision based on the head not the heart. So I said to my wife. "Put it this way. I'm driving us to Poland next year. Which of these cars would you rather ride shotgun in for two days solid?" I banked the money from the sale of the Honda last week.... :D |
||
Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by cossie_al on Jul 25th, 2006, 11:19pm Its the right decision, for a bit my head got into acountant mode and told me that the scorp must go. However this turned out to be a mistake after driving cars of inferior,,,,,,,well inferior everything by comparison. So imagine the smile on my face as the wife suggested keaping it. After lots of arguments about the cost of repairs. I think I am winning on the argument about the cash lost on a new car due to depreciation would be more than maintaining the scorp ;) ;) ;) By the way she reads this from time to time so absolutely no discusion saying that a new car would be the better option cos then the arguments would start all over again ;D ;D ;D |

Title: Re: The ex-Sorpio owners help group Post by cossie_al on Aug 2nd, 2006, 8:44pm Its passed its test ;D ;D Pair of new cats full set of goodridge hoses ebc green stuff pads equipment to make brake pipes full set of wheel bearings and an mot with not even an advisory total just over £300 so Baw my membership to the ex-owners club will most deffinately have to be suspended for one year. the grin on my face as I drove away from the test centre was from ear to ear and my cheaks (the ones on my face ;)) are starting to ache. After driving the wifes puegeot 206 for a while its just like driving a scorp for the first time again. Oh happy days are here again ta da da da da dah etc etc ;D ;D ;D |
