Title: Re: help with internet dilemma please Post by Simmo on Jul 23rd, 2006, 5:31pm Craig, I'm the last one to ask BUT go to Start, click on Help. and then select 'customizing my computer' it will offer you the opportunity to change your password etc. Maybe that route will solve your problem. Good luck, Mike. |

Title: Re: help with internet dilemma please Post by tintin on Jul 23rd, 2006, 6:45pm Hi, depends on your router, but on most these days you can restrict which computers can access the internet (and even what times they can access), as they have firewalls as well. You will have to assign each computer an IP address, then restrict except your computer (and password protect yours, so they cant use it). Its a bit tricky but should be possible with the manual. dont forget to password protect the router as well, youngsters these days are clever..... alternatively you can install software such as NetNanny etc which will let you set all this up. http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best/restrict-web.html hth |

Title: Re: help with internet dilemma please Post by Bren_K30 on Jul 24th, 2006, 9:02pm If it's a wireless router you will have an icon in the bottom right of the screen for it. By right clicking on that icon you can access the pop up menu, one of the options being "View available wireless networks" click on that and highlight your network. You can then select the "Change advanced settings" in the related tasks bit on the left. Select the Wireless Networks tab and you can select properties. There should be your network key. Set things so it has to be entered to start up the network. That key code should be in the manual for your router. But make sure you DO have it before changing your settiings. |

Title: Re: help with internet dilemma please Post by Kjetil S on Jul 25th, 2006, 7:19pm Monthly bandwidth??? The biggest telco in Norway tried the bandwidth limit thingie here when DSL was gaining market share, but had to abandon this after a year or so as noone would accept it. Surely there must be an ISP available wich offers true unlimited bandwidth? I pay about £25 a month for 3mbit download/0.5mbit upload and no restrictions what so ever. For £43/month I can get a 24mbit download/1.5mbit upload still with no restrictions. |
