Title: Ford Explorer
Post by km449 on Jul 31st, 2006, 12:53pm
Hi peeps

Apart from their scorpio like thirst what's the general view on these?

Took out a 97k P reg fsh non chain rattling one yesterday and it was wicked. Much quicker and more flexible  than my 2.3 Scorp despite it's shed like aerodynamics.

In fact it felt like a scorp on steroids, with much the same dash/audio etc, but I could see for miles over the traffic.

Anyone any experience of these?

Thanks

keith

looked into these myself, but the interior and spec was very disappointing (unless you bought one of the later north face models),and also personally thought that the body roll was too excessive round the corners, and they were not without there problems either.......
big and spacious yes, cheap to buy again yes,but too many downsides for my liking (especially after taking one out),and not that it was important to me,but off road they aren't brilliant as well,if you read the reports about them......

I did some of the launch work on the Explorer into the UK market, big and spaciuos reasonably well equipped, noticed that the leather interiors are not as good as the Scorp over time. At the time great fun to drive but quite thirsty, "pass anything except a petrol station"  but actually much better than a Range Rover on mpg.

Seem to remember Tiff Needells main comment on TG was a bit too big for the school bus run.

Had one for the winter of 97 (it snowed and didn't I feel smug)!

Oh and by the way Ford were selling 250k Explorers a year in the states. (Untilt the tyres started popping)
