Title: D**n cyclists! Post by Kjetil S on Aug 24th, 2006, 2:55pm Just had to get this off my chest: Was driving home from school now when a "senior" cyclist had decided to have the road to himself, mid rush hour, and when I finally got far enough ahead to be behind him, I sounded my horn to let him know that there were cars behind him (still 20-some cars waiting to pass), and there were a perfecly good sidewalk for him to use. You would expect him to pull aside and let people pass? No, he held his arm out and started weaving from side to side to try and stop me from passing. When I finally managed to pass him, I pulled over and tried to find out why he couldn't use the sidewalk as everybody else. He just continued past me and yelled some obscene words. THEN when I tried to pass him again, he started riding his bike about center on the lane, making it near impossible for me to pass, and then made another swing at my car when I finally got side by side. I REALLY wish I knew his name, so I could report him to the authorities. According to Norwegian law, as long as you're on a public road, you have to obey road traffic laws, which state that you are obliged to try and get traffic to flow as smooth as possible, and it is illegal to create dangerous situations, as he did. He can actually loose his drivers lisence for this behaviour. Argh! |

Title: Re: D**n cyclists! Post by mr._floppy on Aug 24th, 2006, 7:20pm Here in Scotland we have the Cyclist Season where it's customary when overtaking cyclists for your passenger to poke at them with a long stick with a boxing glove on the end . ( Only between April and September ) ::) |

Title: Re: D**n cyclists! Post by Kjetil S on Aug 25th, 2006, 6:07pm Mhm, just what happened here. He also had an almost brand new sidewalk half a meter from where he was insisting on slowing down rush hour traffic even more. |

Title: Re: D**n cyclists! Post by sector-9 on Aug 27th, 2006, 7:51pm Don't know about Norway but here it's illegal to cycle on the pavement - technically even kiddies could be arrested for it. Darren |

Title: Re: D**n cyclists! Post by Kjetil S on Aug 27th, 2006, 8:39pm Well, the correct term in Norwegian is "gang og sykkelsti" which translates loosely into "pedestrian and cyclist path" or something along those lines. So as long as cyclists doesn't hit pedestrians, it's fully legal for them to use the pavement. (Actually recommended, but sadly not mandatory.) |

Title: Re: D**n cyclists! Post by Ells on Aug 30th, 2006, 5:04pm I think cyclists should be allowed on the pavement here too. I cycle to work in the summer :o and although there is no one walking on the pavements during the rush hour, I must cycle in the roads and take my chances with the rush hour traffic because it's illegal to ride on the pavements. Luckily a large proportion of the journey is through a cycle path through some woodlands. :) |

Title: Re: D**n cyclists! Post by Spannerdemon on Aug 30th, 2006, 6:02pm What pigs me off with these parsimonious cyclists is that they pay NO Road Tax and they don't have to be insured. So if they damage your car, you have to sue them to get any money out of them. Either that or give them a good smack (out of sight of course)!! :o :D I HATE the horrible smug little gits!! I REALLY detest them. Riding through red lights, ignoring everything in their path, and as this post shows, sticking 2 fingers up at anybody in a car. God, I wish front mounted machine guns were legal!! 8) 8) |

Title: Re: D**n cyclists! Post by monghad on Aug 30th, 2006, 9:03pm Remember, it's only illegal if you get caught ;D ;) |

Title: Re: D**n cyclists! Post by Kjetil S on Aug 30th, 2006, 10:18pm perhaps mount a nossle underneath the car to spray oil in front of the cyclists as you pass by them? "It was an accident officer! Honest! Never seen it do this before!" ;D |
