Title: Scorpio 3D for Racer car sim
Post by TiberiuS on Aug 31st, 2006, 9:23pm
Well, this is my first post on this forum so I guess I'd better say hello to you all and apologise to admin for letting my membership go for so long before posting ;)

This wasn't my original reason for joining but read on...

I've been creating a 3D computer model of a Scorpio Ultima for the free downloadable car simulator, Racer (www.racer.nl), an excellent ongoing project; everything about Racer is free and this is a high quality model with realistic physics, it has taken me about 8 Months (yes, 8 Months, these things take time) to get it to the release stage and I'm keen on some feedback from real people rather than the kids who argue about whether it is or isn't ugly. The model thread is at: http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=262741, you will need to install a recent version of the Racer car simulator to use the model, otherwise just look through the thread and at the screenshots and tell me what you think.  You can drive it around like a real car, even better if you have a wheel and set of pedals, it has lots of physics data taken from this site and photo textures taken from my own Scorp.

Hope you like it.

Regards, TiberiuS :).

Too bad that a lot of sites that contain tracks for the game are down.....verry bad.....

....and about the cossie....weeeeell it has 5 gears.... :P...and almoust no brakes  ;D

.... i wander if the 3d model has the fusebox covers on because the brake lamps pulse inregulary....when used  ;D

Title: Re: Scorpio 3D for Racer car sim
Post by Scorpioen84 on Sep 1st, 2006, 9:57pm
im going to try to tweek the suspension & the brakes a bit (the *.ini file in the folder), it rides TO high and the brakes are TO bad... And the cornering scilles are a bit wierd, i realy think the cornes can bee done mutch faster irl ( in real life )...

But other than that, its FUN.!
Sounds like a scorp then u floore it and it reves past 4000rpm...

Its made for free by our friend TiberiuS.! its amasing.!  ;D

BTW, does the cossie have 6gears.??

Title: Re: Scorpio 3D for Racer car sim
Post by Octavian_P on Sep 1st, 2006, 10:35pm
It has 6 speed in the game 5 for going foward and 1 for reversing, te real cossie has only 4 for going foward and one for reverse....

hmmm...int's pretty nice to play a bit with the ini file, also we can make a 2.0 and a 2.3 liter model.

PS: i think the brake lights pulses as the the abs is on....
there is also an option for TCS

;D

traction_control
{
 enable=1

Does wonders on cornering  :)

wheel_front
{
 max_braking=2500

and

wheel_rear
{
 max_braking=2500

Makes it stop like a scorpio

Now only if i could find the rations on the A4LDE, and figure out how the suspension works  :P

Absolutely bloody brilliant........ but any chance of one of the much better looking facelift models........ maybe in silver............. with a roofbox......... and transmission fluid  leaking everywhere?? ;D ;D

Or even an estate!!

The automatic got 4 gears, the game is a manual.....?

Jupp is spins out for nothing whitout the TC, good for drifting thoug....  :)

Do u steer whith mouse or keyboard.?
Im getting a hang of the mouse, great response.... ;D

Ive also made : max_rpm=6550 : max_torque=296
ive remapped the ecu..  []  ;D , dont have to think about fuelconsumtion in the game...

Title: Re: Scorpio 3D for Racer car sim
Post by Octavian_P on Sep 2nd, 2006, 1:28am
I also kind of got used with the mouse, nice tuning, i think i'll remap the ecu also, i always wonderd how a twin turbo 650 hp cossie will run  ;D

4 wheel drive version anyone?  ;D

Most impressed and the drag strip that you can access from the pit lane is pretty cool also.

This has the potential for hours of harmless and maddening fun 8)

Weeel, the game does have influnce over my scorpio driving tehniques, when going to work....i made drifts with it, crossed the speed limit....all the time...by almoust twice....

....just jokeing  ;)

.... not twice the speed limit, but a bit over that  ;D

Tip.

for "cheating" to a perfect suspension just transfere the suspension setup from the Skyline...
It does'nt feel like a scorp anymore thoug...

Got two car.ini files on the scorp now, one superb racer, and the originale scorp feeling setup..  ;D

Thanks for all the replies, many more than I expected ;)

A few points on the model first:

The reason it has 5 speeds is because Racer doesn't support autoboxes at the mo, I have tried (as others have too) to simulate the pudding stirrer but without support for a torque converter it isn't easy. Clutch slip and modified engine torque don't have the right feel and there is no support for kickdown or varying the gearchange RPM with throttle input. I settled for the ratios of the DOHC 5 speed with the final drive of the auto, it has the same overdrive ratio as the auto, 2650rpm @70mph...

It's designed to be driven with a wheel/pedals or joystick, it won't drive as well on a keyboard and it is meant to be realistic ;D, leaning heavily on corners with oversteer if you ask too much of it.

There is a bug with ABS on Racer at the moment, the flashing brakelamp thinggy happens on most cars with ABS, I will try to figure a way around it.

In a way, the model is dedicated to this website, where much of the data came from, if you want to fiddle around with it, feel free, mabye even join the RSC forum and post some mods and pro-Scorpio comments up there ;).

I want to take this further and improve it somewhat for version 1.2, 3D modelling isn't easy and every increase in detail uses more computer resources, it's a trade-off between realism and usable computer power. I made it onto a Cossie because speed is what most people go for (I have a 2.3) but I've been thinking about some others myself, 2.0, 2.3 and the TD mabye.

I'm still looking for some data and any help will be welcome: torque curves, tyre/suspension rates, some sounds, photos I can use for textures (yes Baz, a facelift is on my mind also :)). A Supercharged Ash Black V6 with Maple veneer and magnolia leather and one in Ford Motorsport paint is planned too, just a bit of fun. Anyone who contributes will get full credit of course.

All feedback (both good and bad) and help is welcome :)

Regards, TiberiuS.

Some more work done on the model Scorpio. Also new is the bespoke Cosworth version; a fantasy supercharged factory conversion, 330bhp, all wheel drive and a 6 speed box, reworked front end and partly dechromed, it's sitting on a set of 20" Jaguar rims at the moment.

I think you have seen that front bumper before, RichardMS ;).

There's been a lot of interest on this elsewhere, it seems more than a few people want a Diesel and a 2.0 Exec added, this is where I will need help to take this further. The following would be very useful:

- Some engine data (torque/power graphs) for any Scorpio engine, well, any Scorpio technical data is welcome (wheelrates etc.)

- Some good photos of a facelift (grille, lamps etc)

- Samples of the later colours (Java Blue etc), to expand the colourpack.

Full credit will be given to anyone who contributes :)

The end result hoping to be a complete online 'catalogue' of virtual Scorpios, to improve the car's image and for owners (and ex owners  ::)) to be able to get in and drive around.

Any thoughts, comments, help, suggestions welcome...

Regards, Bruce.

well, with the kind permission of TiberiuS, ive had a go at modding the old girl

still needs some work, and a lot of smoothing out to give it that 'soft' look

the pic is a bit out of shape cuz of the 640x480 limit

Ahhh lol... :D

If I did that to my car, I wouldn't be able to drive down past Walton pier on a Friday night like I do without the ol' plod taking any notice ::)

BTW Matt, what program are you using? Looks like Max to me...

Glad to see you're having fun...

Bruce ;)

im using Zmod 1.05 final (i find it the most stable)

i got the reflection like this

set the background to black, then copy the whole car and mirror it, then move the copy so that the wheels line up, then i created a flat surface, doesnt need to be anything fancy, then select the flat surface and change the faces properties to semitransparent  ;D

You really fooled me Matt, I could've swore that was Max  ::).

Quick update, spent a while last night on the estate version, I'm nowhere near finished playing around with the Scorpio yet. It still has the saloon bumper and needs most of the details added but the basic shell is in shape.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l89/TiberiuS1250/Scorpio_Estate1-1.jpg

I'm working at the moment from photos sent to me by RichardMS and from a model I snatched off eBay ages ago, I don't know the details of the estate too well so any reference pics would be welcome and also some rear lamp/detail textures. Also some photos of a base level interior and some photos of the phonedial alloys or any Scorpio wheel trims; if anyone can help, send me a pm, thanks ;).

I keep being asked for the estate and for a base model mod with the diesel or 8v engine, the car seems to be becoming very popular over on RSC, a good PR boost for the Scorpio if ever there was one :D.

Searched the web last night but couldn't find any specs on the TD engine, next thought is to search for the torque/power graphs for the 1.8 TD fitted to the Mondeo and go from there, also having trouble finding anything for the 2.0 8V...

I'm working to get all the versions relesed along with the final update soon.

Bruce.

Matt, the diesel specs are good but what I really need is the torque/dyno plot graph (torque vs. RPM), like you get in the brochures. I found enough dyno plots for the Zetec engine but they're all for modified cars, I want the ones for all the stock engines. The current 24v model uses a plot I found for a Cologne, I shifted the peaks up to where the 24v's are but an accurate plot would be better.
